If this is true we will be in big trouble if Hart gets injured.

Manchester City's unsettled goalkeeper Shay Given wants to seal loan deal in January

Keeper admits situation is demoralising

Manchester City’s unsettled goalkeeper Shay Given is ready to make a move away from Eastlands on loan after seeing his first-team opportunities become limited, according to The Sunday Times.

The Irish goalkeeper is frustrated at warming the bench at the City of Manchester Stadium while Joe Hart starts for the Citizens, and is eyeing a switch away from the club in the next transfer window.

“We’ll see what happens come January and hopefully if the situation’s the same I can go on loan and try and get some games in. I’ve never said I want to leave Man City. I believe it’s a big club that in the next couple of years is going to do big things. I want to be part of that but I also want to be playing football.

“I wouldn’t mind where a loan was and wouldn’t rule out abroad if it was a good club and a good team, no disrespect to a club that’s fighting relegation and getting pummelled every week — though at the minute that probably seems better than what I’m doing.”

On Thursday Given was left out of a match in the Europa League although he had thought he would start: “I thought I’d have played but I don’t know what the manager’s thinking because he hasn’t told me,” he said.

Mancini: Given can leave City

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has told Shay Given he can leave Eastlands in the January transfer window.

Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Given has spoken of his frustration at a lack of first team chances after being overtaken by Joe Hart in the City pecking order this season.

It was thought City refused to let him leave last month but Mancini now insists Given will be able to move - if he wishes - when the window reopens.

Interest is sure to be high in the 34-year-old with clubs from home and abroad likely to make a move.
Respect

Following City's 2-0 win at Wigan, Mancini said: "I have a lot of respect for Shay and I told him the situation before the finish of the transfer market.

"I told him 'Shay you can choose. I hope that you stay here but I respect your decision and if you want to leave you can'.

"He decided to stay here and until January he must stay here.

"I understand his frustration but I need that Shay stays here and puts in 100 per cent.

"In January if he decides to leave I respect that decision."

im not surprised really we should be giving him cup games at least.
he IS TOO GOOD FOR THE BENCH imo.

I agree. He is too good to be sitting on the bench .He should be given the cup games and atleast half of the Europa games.

His mood and body language totally changed from Wednesday to Friday, i'm absolutely sure that if Hart hadn't dropped that clanger against Blackburn, Given would have played Thursday.

Mancini IMO was in a no win situation, if he "rested" Hart the press would have jumoed on it making a big deal about dropping him.

He had to stand by him and unfortunately Given ended up not playing.

I believe this too. Mancini needed to show Hart support or els his confidence would have dropped.

But Mancini shouldn't care what the English press think, it's about doing right by his players, something he hasn't done by with Given, who is clearly now totally demoralised.

Imo, Mancini should have announced publicly before the start of the season that Given would be playing in all Carling Cup and Europa League games, as a club policy to be fair to Given and to keep his fitness going should Hart get injured. This would have meant that he couldn't have been criticized for 'dropping' Hart after his blunder, as Given's selection would have been automatic.

We all knew that though, I think everyone of us to a man thought Given would start the European games, irrelavant of how Hart played.
