Mancini says Given can leave in January

Re: Apparently Given looking to go on loan in January

I'd be surprised if Given didn't play in a least the Carling Cup. I'd also say there's a high probability he'll play in the FA Cup. He can't demand a transfer or loan though. If he doesn't like it it's tough, he's signed a contract and that's the end of it.

-- Sun Sep 19, 2010 1:27 pm --

I really hope he goes on loan in January, with a recall clause right at the top of his contract.

Why is everyone worrying? He's not going to sit on the bench forever so the way I see it is if we loan him out with a recall clause then that means were not selling him just yet, so he can still be our backup keeper for at least another year or so...

Does anyone know whether if we loan him out with a 24 hour recall clause we can include him in our 25? So that should Hart get injured we could call Given back and he could play? If not it'd be pointless.

Re: Apparently Given looking to go on loan in January

Surely we want Hart to be getting experience of European football with us, he is the future and although it's unfortunate for Shay he's the one we've got to be looking to develop.

Maybe Given could play in the league cup, give him a realistic chance for some silverware to top off his career.

Re: Apparently Given looking to go on loan in January

A keeper of his class is not going to be happy sitting on the bench with the odd run out. I'm sure the Arse would snap him up.

Re: Apparently Given looking to go on loan in January

The whole Given/Hart debate comes down to this for me... we must build for the future. Losing Joe would be a huge blow for us in years to come as he has the ability to become one of the very best. Losing Shay would be a blow for a little while but if he wanted to go I could understand it & he should go with our best wishes.

It's not a question of whether he's happy or not, he signed a contract. When he signed he knew we had Hart on our books, who was a very promising talent, and there was a chance he'd be back if not this year then next year, he chose to back himself to be better than Hart. Well the person that matters doesn't think he is and it's up to Shay to show him he is.

Your point is moot if he isnt given a run of games as he wont be able to prove himself

Re: Apparently Given looking to go on loan in January

Given has nothing to prove to anyone everyone knows that he is a top class keeper and has been consistantly good for well over 10 years what has he to prove. Not a lot really.
I didnt like how Hart was just given the jersey by Mancini. He didnt do much to get it BUT he has so far been in top form and deserves to hold onto it in my opinion. 1 big fuck up which cost us points Given has every right to be pissed off at not getting a chance to win back his jersey. I argee with giving Joe the chance to prove himself like any younger keeper but Shay has been very unlucky as during his time at the club he has done fuck all wrong. Sell him on in January if they are not going to play him is my view. If Mancini is totally behind Hart Given would of been already sold by now.

Re: Apparently Given looking to go on loan in January

is it only me that thinks you dont rotate GK's unless for some unkown reason they need a rest. If Hart is our No1 and we playing are strongest team in PL and Europe why would he pick Given. Given will prob get carling cup due to maybe our 2nd string playing that in the beginning

I cant see why everyone thinks we owe Given so much, he only been with us 18 months and Hart been with us over 4 years now since we signed him as a youngster

Granted Given is far too good to be a number 2 but then so was Cudicini in his prime.
