Mancini says Given can leave in January

Re: Apparently Given looking to go on loan in January

if he doesnt want to fight for his place sell him, true pro would shut up and wait for his chance. As keith macrae did during corrigans era. Never complained but always ready.

Re: Apparently Given looking to go on loan in January

He'll do what his employer tells him to do, just like any employee.
If that is to sit on the bench all season then that's what he'll have to do.
Personally i'd play him in the early cup games at least.

Re: Apparently Given looking to go on loan in January

In my opinion, Mancini is making a serious mistake by not playing Given in every cup tie. Hart should play in the Premiership only. Not only does that keep both players reasonably content but also reduces the likelihood of our number one keeper (Hart) picking up a silly injury during the cup games. It's beginning to look as if the Don is struggling to man-manage his squad of superstars in the same way that Hughes did. Perhaps he needs more help from the rest of the coaching staff?

Now he knows how Steve Harper felt for 10 years.

It's demoralising for him? Wouldn't it be demoralising for Joe?

Let him go on loan until we need him and the obvious first clause in the contract allows for a return if Joe is injured.

Not really. If you take the kid to one side and explain that he's your number one and will start all Premier League matches, but that you have an excellent back up keeper in Shay Given who you want to keep happy and match fit by letting him play in the cup games. I'm sure Hart would be ok with this.

What happens if Hart gets injured in the first minute of a game ?
I'd rather we kept him around

Re: Apparently Given looking to go on loan in January

The part I find a bit of a issue is the last bit of the piece were Given states. " I dont know what the manager is thinking because he hasnt told me ". Now Given was told he will get games this season if he thought he was going to be starting in midweek and was dropped and with nothing coming from the manager as why he is not starting is a bit of bad management. If Mancini pulled him aside and told Shay I dont want to drop Hart as if I do it could damage his confidence in the long term I would expect Shay to be not happy but understand why he is not being picked. To say nothing to him is a bit not on if I am honest Given is a pro and like any keeper understands if you make a mistake most of the time you will be given another chance just like Given when he started out.

Re: Apparently Given looking to go on loan in January

I really hope he goes on loan in January, with a recall clause right at the top of his contract.

Why is everyone worrying? He's not going to sit on the bench forever so the way I see it is if we loan him out with a recall clause then that means were not selling him just yet, so he can still be our backup keeper for at least another year or so...

Fair enough, it's demoralising for him, but the transfer windows just shut and he's been sat on the bench for SEVEN games. Does he really need to go spouting off to the press now?

Wouldn't have a problem with it if he said in January, 'i gave it a go being no. 2, I'm not getting in the team so id like a loan move', but there is nothing that can be done for another 4 months, so what's the point in mouthing off?

I like shay, but he's been in the game a while now, he should know better than this.
