Well I haven't. But I think the fact still remains he'd be a year older and perhaps slower. Say we get Vertonghen in and we want to shore up the last tem minutes. All we need to do is sub in Lescott to play CD and move Vertoghen to the DM next to Nige, Milner and Yaya. ANd suddenly we have a fortress of defensively capable players. Stil feeling uncertain, then throw in Zab and Push Micah to the middle, now we have 2 fullbacks 4 CDs 2 DMs and a hustling CM in Milner all in to kill a game off.SamTheGuru said:Dax777 said:He was good in spurts. But it is clear he is getting up there in age. There is a point where the value of experience just doesn't match the loss of physical ability anymore. ANd I think we are at that point. However sentimentality might get the best of Mancini and the City heirachy. I hope Viera saves them the trouble and retires.adaminho said:The viera comment is a bit harsh hes been brilliant this season, coming on bit of stability in the team, and he seems like a father figure to all the young talents we have in our team.
We already have Barry to take up that mantle. Someone who is experienced, has been around for a while and can be fantastic in spurts. Don't need to bring in any old heads.
I would be happy to see Vieira extend his stay as a player for 1 year. I think a lot of people have overlooked just how valuable he has been in ensuring we hold out for the last 5-10 minutes of games. As a bit part player he is fantastic but I don't want to see him playing any full games next season!
The value of having a Viera is frankly overstated in my opinion. He has been a bit role player Since 2007 now, and it is probably time to call it a career. There are younger and better players everywhere, and youth players who could be getting the reps he will be taking away if he played one more year.
