Just a few musings from me about Roberto Mancini, and the way he seems to be conducting his business.
As most of us have noticed he´s a very different character compared with say Mark Hughes. Bobby is an old fox that have managed at the highest level in the byzantine world known as Italian football. In short..a master of the art.
I don´t think it´s a coincidence that we have been linked with players from Lazio and Inter as both are clubs that he have managed in the past and I bet he knows the top brass there rather well.
It´s also in my mind that Mancini will look out for ways to help a few clubs in Italy in some ways. First of all because one day he might return to Italy and would prefer to have a number of favours owed to him I bet.
Let me state that I don´t hold this against him. It´s just how Italian football operates.
A select group of people that sort of keep tabs on who´s owning someone a favour in and outside the country and if you are an outsider they will hardly let you even know what time it is..which we did find out in the Kaka debacle.
I did mention earlier that Mancini as our manager was greeted with relief by many of the established clubs in Italy and Spain. He´s very much a part of the "establishment" that rules the footballing world and it sort of makes the appearance of City as a world player acceptable.
Acceptable everywhere but in the UK apparently..:D
You might have noticed a certain difference in how we are mentioned in both Italian and Spanish papers, suddenly we got respect.
Will that serve us in the future as well?..Well, Mancini was the guy that firmly put Inter on the map as the dominant club in Italy after Juve was hit by the scandals that almost broke the club.
I´m confident that City will reap rewards in untold ways because of things being set in motion now, in ways we can´t foresee yet.
But I´m confident that when we think back on this period in the clubs history it´s the smiling face of Mancini that might come first to mind.
Let the mindgames begin...
