Mancini's selection and tactics

So you're saying the fans are fair-weather. And before you get all pissy, read what you wrote. That's what you're saying.

Hahaha I literally cannot believe I've just read that.

Butt out, son, there's a good lad. You're out of your depth on this one.

It is hard to say anything bad about the coach who was the mastermind behind winning the title. At the end of the last season Mancini looked like a genius to us but the truth is that every year, the coach who wins the league always looks like that. Does he honestly look like genius to you now?

While Mancini did play an important role in winning the trophy it seems to me that, by constantly mixing up the team, he wants to prove to everyone that it was more him than the players who actually made it happen.

I understand the idea of the rotation, resting the players, matching up the opponent, the fact that everyone wants to play... but sometimes it seems like Mancini is trying to outdo himself. Players are tired of that too and it reflects accordingly on the pitch. You have a good game and the next game you are on the bench. I think that he is sending the wrong message to his players.

Besides Joe, Vincent, Yaya, Kun and Silva (I guess), it is hard to say who else is a starter on the team. Now, someone will say they have to rest. How many games per year do Messi, Ronaldo or Cavanni rest? Their schedule is as busy as the schedule of City.

I would stick with the 7-8 core players and the other 2-3 players who are playing well at the time. Let team play together and get back into winning games. Keep players as long as they are in form and then give someone else a chance.

This weekend we play a team so desperate for midfielders they are scouring the free agent scene.

Injured: Diarra, Davies, Richardson, and Frei
Sold/released: Dembele, Etuhu, Danny Murphy

Probable midfield: Sidwell and Baird (utility man)

Tactically speaking, surely we should look to dominate the midfield and take advantage of this opportunity.

(Posted similar in the matchday thread but thought it was relevant here to mull on whether Mancini will plan his tactics with this in mind)

Simple question do you think Mancini's makes the team greater than the sum of its parts?

I think we have the best squad in the league; stronger than last year with Tevez for a full season and five quality new arrivals.

Anything less than top 2 and Champs League quarter finals should be classed as failure.
You probably overrate your players and definitely underrate other teams. You do have the best squad in the Premiership and should make the top 2. However, you still are too reliant on certain players due to an overall lack of quality across the squad.

The CL is a different matter. You have been handed a very difficult group and Dortmund are a fantastic side. If they get their first 11 are better than say United. Will be difficult getting out of the group. Even if you do get out of the group there is a good chance you may get Barca or Bayern, since you might come second. Both would be favourites against you. PSG could be dangerous too. Now considering Chelsea, Arsenal and United have a good chance of topping their groups, your chances of drawing Barca, Bayern or PSG in the second run could be 3/4.
why dont you take your smug opinions somewhere else ??

In Mancini's defence, he wanted Hazard, De Rossi, Martinez, Thiago Silva, etc, and he ended up with pale imitations. If he had been given his targets (or just a couple of them), we wouldn't be having this discussion imo.

That's not a defence of anything!

Can we please put to bed this myth that the reason we've started slowly is because Mancini wasn't given ANOTHER 150 million plus to spend. It's bullshit and it's the wrong mentality for us supporters to have. The rags have been there or thereabouts in Europe and the league for the last 5 years, winning fuck knows how many trophies along the way. They've signed nobody of any serious note for fucking years. And they've been selling their best players, one of them to us.

We need to get a grip of our transfer expectations and start addressing the thought that maybe, just maybe, our underperforming squad need to sort their shit out and start playing to their abilities. Whether they are unmotivated, or disorganised, or a combination of the two - the answer is in on the training pitch not in the transfer market.

Spot on, William. The cheque book doesn't solve everything. Successful management in the real world involves using resources effectively, not just spending them.

Cheap jibe, super-mario. Whether you agree with him or not, Supercrystal7's posts are among the most thoughtful on here. Not throwaway one-liners. You wouldn't know that. If you intend staying on BM for longer than 16 posts, do us all a favour by thinking before you press the submit button.

I didn't ask you. But if you only want to post now and again (which is your right) why not make it count by going easy on the playground stuff?

Couldn't let this condescension go. 441 posts hardly makes you a BM legend.

Be careful you are in danger of sounding like Didsbury Dave.
