I had the thought tmwhen he sinned the new deal that we had down a deal with him - sign a new deal and we will sell you and split it 50/50I’m actually really interested in this one as I find it the strangest contract extension I’ve seen in a long time.
We seemed to have been waiting for his contract to expire from about 1 season in and it would have this summer but we renewed for 1 more year. Why?
The only possible reason would be to get a transfer fee (he’s not going to play), but if that is the case why would Mangala do it. Be a free transfer more options more money. He doesn’t owe us anything?
Also how much of a transfer fee are we going to get? People know we want to sell and his stock is hardly high.
Renewing seems a mistake to me and unusual love, however the people who run our club are smart and will have not made the decision lightly.
Time will tell if it was a good decision so I’m keen to find out.
Mangala was injured with significant rehab time left, so wouldn't find another job on a good terms immediately. It actually made sense to extend to finish the rehab, using access to City's doctors and facilities.I had the thought tmwhen he sinned the new deal that we had down a deal with him - sign a new deal and we will sell you and split it 50/50
He gets payed during his rehab, we get the possibility of a transfer fee and it protects us against a possible transfer ban.I’m actually really interested in this one as I find it the strangest contract extension I’ve seen in a long time.

Sensible decision by a extremely well run club.
How do you know he couldn't find a new club? This still makes zero sense. Mangala couldn't find a new club even when he was almost out of contract so there is no possibility of us getting a fee for him. As for having him in case we get a transfer ban, I can't see any chance we would ever be that desperate that he'd get on the bench even.
So, IF we had received a transfer in this present window and we have lost Stones and LaPorte through injury, Mangala would not have been considered for selection? This still makes zero sense. He will move on this summer and we will probably give him a nice pay out or sort his agent out in the future for something. Does extending his contract also do something for the contract amortization as well? so we can write off more of his value against our books.
