Mangala joins Valencia on a Permanent deal

Hate how city fans slag Mangala off. He had some good games and contributed well in our injury crisis prior to last Christmas. He was a part of the 18 game winning run. He does not suit Pep's style but is still a solid defender and deserves more respect than some of you give to him. Pathetic how players are written off as terrible just because they don't quite cut it at our lofty level of football.
Years ago we would have been delighted to have a centre-half like Managala. You can see clearly the people slating the guy never witnessed some of the dross we had in the eighties, nineties and early 2000's playing in that position. Give the guy a break he contributed last season and had a couple of very good games when we needed him.
Sure. But we didn’t pay thirty or forty mill for them.

The reason people are probably down on him is not just the huge fee paid but the fact we spent months scouting him. Going over him with a fine toothcomb to ensure he was the defender we needed. We looked forward to the signing and it turned out he was just another mediocre centre back signing like Savic and Nastasic (?). He symbolised something rotten about our scouting process and I think our patience just snapped. All that time, all that money for a defender that was at best a bottom quarter team player and no better than any number of cheap Premiership or Championship defenders we could have picked up for a fraction of the price.

Sure, the fee wasn’t his fault and sure, he had a few reasonable games but that fee was massive for the time.

Thankfully under Pep we seemed to have got our shit together regarding signings.

Does anyone know when he’s likely to be fit again?

I can’t find anything that even says what sort of knee ligament damage he had cruciate or otherwise. If it were any other player we would all know what it was and the expected return date. I get the impression City just want his contract to quietly run out with as little publicity as possible. Gone in July and pretend it was all a bad dream.

What like bobby Ewing in Dallas..

Love the whole 'oh we had shit players back in the day so you can't criticise the ones we have now' crowd. Always good for a laugh.

True it’s pretty much irrelevant. But if we do compare I think we have to look at how far a player is from the squad norm. This is undoubtedly the best squad in City’s history so he really stands out. Crappy players from the 1990s fit right in!

Mangala has the physicality to be a good defender but he sometimes lacks the mentality to progress further.
As somebody said he had Costa in his back pocket on his debut and he looked terrific, but since then he's played a few games and looked poor yet other games he's looked decent.
The main problem for him is he isn't a ball playing centre back which Pep loves in his team's.
I think he could do a decent job for a few teams in the Prem...fuck me Bailey and Lindehop at the swamp look worse than Mangs.
I can't see him getting a look in at City again but I hope wherever he goes he does well.
