Manuel Akanji | Rumours of an Inter loan deal

Appreciate his time but its done, weakest link in the squad now along with gundog, and akanji was never as vital as gundog.

Weakest link in the squad? I love John Stones but he is never fit. Ake has served us very well but exactly the same. Except last season when they were all injured Akanji has been virtually always available. He’s probably our best option defensively at right back. I’d much rather see Ake who is never fit go.

His time is up but a great player for City.

All this I’ll chuck in a fiver or I’ll drive him to the airport is cringy and really boring now…and that goes for all our treble winners. Just listen to yourselves on these threads. I’ve seen it for a few players now even Gundo…Just pack it in please.

We can’t sign any foreign players without selling them, that’s why keeping Stones and Ake (homegrown at Chelsea) is beneficial. Also, they’re both better players.

Most clubs have 4 centre backs for 2 positions, we have 5. Them two counting as 1 negates the injury concerns, at least for me. If they both get injured Gvardiol and Khusanov will play more centrally… win win

Not been mentioned, but personally I didn’t like and haven’t forgotten his comments about the CWC where he said something along lines of that him and rest of squad weren’t interested in it, it wasn’t his comment to make about others. Sure that didn’t go down well with the bosses either.

He played like he didn’t give a shit as well.
Shame he didn’t take a stand and refuse to play, that way we could have got someone interested.

Has every attribute to be world class but is just so lazy.

As for all this protection he’s getting for the treble. He looked like he was playing for Inter in the final, thankfully Ederson was awake.

In another world akanji goes down as one of the most hated city players. Inter capitalise on his mistake and go on to win, son scores after his mistake and we lose the league.

Good player but always got a mistake in him.

Not convinced gala pay the money mind. They don’t seem able to afford ederson to start with!

Spot on. Will never forget him hanging JSP out to dry at Sporting. Akanji should have taken him under his wing as the experienced player - he left him, was stood miles away from him, was stepping up when he shouldn't have been, no communication with the kid. Stones or Dias with JSP and he'd have been okay.

Get this done City!

Not Akanji’s biggest fan by any stretch but I do fear we’ll regret this when Stones and Ake get injured and Dias has a bad run (not uncommon).

You’re right, it’s a risk given Stones and Ake’s injury history - but in that scenario, we’d still be able to play Gvardiol (our player of the season last year) and Khusanov. Who are hardly bad options!

In fact, many would probably choose those two as their preferred pairing at CB anyway.

Just goes to show our depth at CB - which is too much, given squad restrictions.

Akanji going leaves us with 4 centre backs we can rely on.
We'd have Dias, Stones, Ake, Gvardiol and Khusanov.

5 players for two positions, even if 2 are injury prone. Hopefully they just don't get injured at the same time!

I think we also have a recall option on Reis, so we should be covered if Akanji goes.

So ignore his part in winning the CL and make up something that didn't happen so you can criticise him. Brilliant.

Him leaving makes sense

Dias and Gvardiol will be our starting CB pairing for 90% of games, Khusanov ceiling is so high he needs game time and while Ake/Stones are made of glass, when they are fit they are both better than Akanji

That and we have too many non-HG players it makes sense for Akanji, whos technically 6th choice when everyone is fit, is the logical sale

Doubt we'd get a good fee off off of a Galatasaray though

And god forbid we get another injury crisis then either an academy kid or a midfielder plays in the back 4 like would happen with any other team in same position.
