Marc-Andre ter Stegen

I have been analysing the Stats of leading goal keepers. As you would expect the lower the average distance they pass the higher their passing accuracy. Ter Stegen has only been playing in the cup games for Barca. In the 14/15 season his first at Barca, his average pass length was 48m and his passing accuracy was a low 65%. Since then his average pass length has decreased to 26-29m and passing accuracy has improved similar to Bravos and Neuers level of 83-86%.

Hart has a typical passing length of 43-48m and his passing accuracy is usually 55-65%.

In the PL last season Lloris had the best passing accuracy of 68%, Cech 66%, De Gea 62% Hart 59% and Courtois 57%.

Hart had 52.6%

Nice try though. https://www.whoscored.com/Players/8786

Test the water with Spurs, Lloris is exactly what we want.

1. Great shot stopper
2. Excellent positioning
3. Brilliant with his feet
4. Leader at the back

Not sure if Spurs would sell but if it's going to take £67m to buy Ter Ste Gen then why not try for Lloris £50m?

One thing for sure John Stones would show for the ball every time, he is a must so for all you doubters out there last night was for you guys what we have isn't up to it Joe & Kolarov top of that list.

Enlighten us

+ good shot stopper and has become good on the ball since being at Barca.
- His positioning is bloody terrible, lacks command of his area and is clanger prone

Imo Joe is a better keeper in almost every way

If it was 20-30mil then it'd be good business given the kids potential. But if you're going to throw £67million at a keeper why would you not go for a finished article? one that improves on Hart in more than one way. Anyway i'm 99.99% sure this deal is not going to happen.

If we are going to be spending an exorbitant amount of money on a goalkeeper, we should be bidding for either Neuer or De Gea.

Would be ridiculous to spend this amount of money on a position that does not need this kind of investment. Hart is absolutely fine, yes he has his flaws but so do other keepers.

Unfortunately for Hart the almost part is a pretty big deal.
I believe Harts distribution success would improve massively if he reduced his passing length, see my earlier post.
I earlier said Lloris had the best distribution success of the PL keepers I looked at for last season. He also has the shortest average pass length, (38m), of those PL keepers analysed.

I honestly think it's in his head - its a mental thing with Joe because he's never been expected to use the ball in this way. I don't think he's confident enough in game play to pick passes under pressure. His first thought is to get rid in the old school style of play. If this can be improved and he realizes that it's the way forward then there's a good chance he can remain our number one.
If not I expect him to be gone.

What makes me chuckle is hart has consistently been one of our best players. He is a keeper so any error is critical but he rarely makes them in the big games. In Europe he has performed when nearly everyone else has gone missing including silva, aguero and yaya. The lad has a slight dip in form for England, not even for city, and people on here call for his replacement. The same folk stick up for the likes of nasri, bony, sterling and Fernando who have done fuck all except look average for city after costing millions and far more than joe. Fuck ter Stegen! Hart is behind de gea and neuer maybe but behind by very little in my eyes if at all.

Players like Timo Horn or Sergio Rico could easily be moulded to play the pep way and probably at like a 1/4 of the price

Or if you want a goalkeeper purely for his distribution then look no further than Khune(South Africa's keeper) lol

So what your saying is keep Joe and ignore pep's philosophy right?

What makes me chuckle is people so blind to his flaws they make straw men arguments and generalisations which make them look daft.

I suspect passing short goes against his entire goalkeeping coaching in England. How many times do we hear "don't mess about with it at the back, just get rid of it"? Sam Allardyce will have a similar approach. All the PL goalkeepers I looked at had an average pass length of at least 38m, so Hart is behaving normally, within the PL. Whether Pep will have to adapt his style to suit the fast pace of the PL remains to be seen. It is much hotter in Spain and therefore less closing down of keepers and defenders? In Germany he had Neuer, possibly the most gifted ballplaying keeper in the world?
Hart seems to be having a blip with his confidence, but I think we would regret rushing him out the door. I don't know if there are any proven better keepers out there who are available.
