Marc Cucurella

He’s nowhere near £50M worth. If Chelsea pay it so be it, we’ve seen it all before and it doesn’t end well for the player or buying club.

Personally I’m not bothered, having watched him I thought he was average but may have potential to develop.

We are a professional outfit these days, we have strategy and that allows for clubs who try to take advantage. Like Arsenal, Leicester and Napoli we will simply find our player elsewhere.

Remember Cucurella is a very average player not a world class defender.
If he’s so average why did we chase all summer mate? Shit take on the situation. We are well run, yet pay 100m for Grealish in a position we was heavily stacked? Then penny pinch on a huge position for us that’s been an issue for years. 42m on Phillips who was injured most of last year, to come in and be a back up? That was seen as a bargain too, 42 for a back up is a bargain but a bit more than that for what would be a first choice full back isn’t?

Would love to see how the mood of the thread and some posters would be if Tolm or Matty dropped by to say the Chavs story is bollocks and Cuc Willbe ours in the coming days
I haven’t posted too often in here (just as well, too!), but I'd be delighted if he did come. But I can't see it. The perception is that both clubs are entrenched in their positions. If a deal does happen, one of them would appear (repeat for my critics, appear) to need to give way (though it'd be spun to seem otherwise). Are either of them likely to do that?

Rags?

Did you mean Chavs?

Worst case for us is that we have to give JWE (Joshua Wilson-Esbrand) a decent run. How bad can he be. And if he is shit then we might have to play some other kid in a few games. I'm ok with it. Odds are the kids are alright.
Why not throw lavia in then instead of signing Philips? Ridiculous to suggest a youth player at left back. Our squad was stretched to max last season it's weaker now

To be fair Pep has been vocal about his praise for JWE, and there have even been reports to suggest that Pep believes he has the quality to make it in our team in due course.

Chelsea bought Chilwell for 45 mil quid plus few add ons. City were put off with the price tag that Leicester had put.

It ended with Chelsea winning their 2nd champions league in 10 years.

Liverpool bought Van Dijk for 75 mil quid. City were put off with the price tag that Southampton had put.

It ended with Liverpool reaching 2 successive champions league finals and winning it a year later.

The squad is desperate for a proper left back and people will try to mask it by saying Pep has worked his magic and has won the league 4 times in 5 years. Pep is the GOAT. He's won the league with bang avg players like Delph, Zinchenko, Mendy at that position. However the truth is, city have done fantastic business this window and earned loads of cash. Sometimes it's better to just go ahead and plug the gap because it will be worth it.

Agree, but was thinking of those posters who have now pronounced him not good enough once the Chavs were being mentioned

Pep is so close to Txiki Begiristain, Ferran Soriano and Omar Berrada - who manage our player acquisitions - that he will be consulted on the positions they take on every player they’re targeting, and will know how far they’re willing to go on each.

None of this will be a surprise to him, and he’ll be fully supportive if we’ve pulled out because we couldn’t get a player at a value we think is reasonable.

Bizarrely Ferran gave a speech earlier this summer where he said there were only two priority positions to fill this summer - a new striker, and a replacement for Fernandinho.

It seems the Club simply didn’t prioritise a new left back, which is probably why we’re not that bothered at the price you’re asking.

And Pep will absolutely have been involved in that decision.
But that was before Zinchenko left. We literally have only 2 full backs on our books. One is 32 and the other isn't renowned for his defending.

In contrast to the Haaland negotiations, which were handled brilliantly, this has been poorly handled by the hierarchy at City. If we're drawing a line in the sand at 40m, why wasn't this made clear 6-8 weeks ago, instead of it dragging on? And on, and on, and on. As for selling Zinchenko without having his replacement nailed down with a signed contract; it defies belief, really. Now, we'll likely be starting the season with no specialist, experienced LB.
maybe we've had a nod about an injury .

We've won a few trophies ourselves in the meantime too ;-)

He would be perfect for us imo
We wouldn’t spend a whole summer trying to sign a “very average player”
