It's impossible to get things right every time. Absolutely impossible. Mistakes don't licence daft exaggerations, though.
I guess, we hope things may be done if the player is desperate to leave. Kane went on strike for a week or two, Cucu put in a transfer request. We didn't succeed with Kane, but I doubt many regret it, given we've signed Haaland. Maybe it's better to have a giant talent like Haaland than Kane at 28 y.o.? Maybe we'll find a very useful LB now, who knows?
