Yeah, what a dick. It reminds me of that summer we walked away from Harry Maguire and ended up with Ruben fucking Dias.
Sometimes the short memories, and reactionary attitudes of some fans truly shock me. Can you imagine what we would have achieved with Arry' Maguire as a CB for us. Like I said earlier, if our board/team consider the player too expensive, I'll take them on the word, rather than anyone else, given the unreal quality of players we have been delivered as a fan base / team over the last 6 years+.

If he produces a world class left back before the start of the season, or even before the closure of the transfer window, my comment will of course be retracted.

He is not friggin LB, he is just makeshift LB for us. Are you paying attention for the last five years or you just being smartass about it?

he has not played any other position for Manchester City aside from left back. Makeshift at first, yes. He is a dedicated left back at the club level. He needs to be replaced. Will he be? Quite possibly, still a month left. The alternate options we've been linked to thus far are not up to standards of the best team in the world.

Replacing his left back minutes with Nathan Ake (who more times than not isn't available for selection with injuries anyway) will not win the title.

Pep knew about him and wzs an admirer of him before he came to Brighton.
Villa put a £100m buy out on J G, knowing that they wanted to keep him, only a top 6 club is likelty to pay that, once one of them come calling he is going, with Cucu, Brighton do not wang to sell, they dont have to however once a top 6 sidd comes in for him he is going, Brighton put a high price on his head to try and put thrm off, its work ATM with you how ever Chelsea now have some money, however Tom Tickle, is not an ounce on Pep so i cant see Cucu develping at Chelsea.
Maybe we were thinking United would come in, look at what we wanted think thats not a lot and offered £100m.
Ok first off, to rubbish your assumption Pep was an admirer prior to Brighton… If Pep had wanted him back then he’d already be in City blue. There was no talk of him prior to this window and I highly doubt it’s because we see him as top class, more because we thought we could get him cheap.
I also don’t get the Grealish comparisons, he’s an established England international playing in England at his boyhood club. He was happy to insert a buyout in his contract as it helped Villa if anyone came calling, they made it £100m not because they wanted to keep him but because they knew they couldn't keep him! Huge difference. The clause was also only available to a CL club not just anyone willing to pay it. Add to this that despite what some younger blues may feel, he’ll justify that price tag in time.
As for Cucurella though, he’s not even top 5 or possibly top 10 in the world of LB’s yet somehow commands the top price one has ever gone for. Ones with international pedigree and trophies to back up their cost. As good as he may be he’s had one cap and won player of the year, that’s far from a £50m player in anyones eyes.
I now fully expect him to stay with you and regret it for the rest of his career and for us to announce a deal done for someone else at a fraction of the price or to blow the ceiling price wise for a proven top grade LB. He was a punt at the right price and has been blown up out of nothing to justify a higher fee, trouble is many blues have fallen for the trap.

Jack was never 'worth' more than £50m imo realistically or otherwise. We paid double.
Riyad Mahrez was never 'worth' more than £35m imo. We paid almost double.
Cucurella is 'worth' no more than £30m imo. Chelsea will most likely pay more than double.

The only conundrum here is how easily these fools are parted with money. Bloom must be pissing himself laughing over this.

I disagree on Riyad. You don't get to be PL PFA Player of the Year and then have a 35 mil tag. If he hadn't won that.. maybe you'd be right.

I did answer this.

IMO could the same be said about Villa and the J G buy out, maybe City paying it or Chelsea overpaying for Cucu, or City and Fodens payrise.
You replied but have failed to answer the direct question posed without bring Villa & others into the equation. If my house is worth £750k but my asking price is £3.6m, that's my right to do so, but in reality it's only worth what someone's willing to pay for it. Villa wanted £100m & Pep & Txiki saw something that they thought was worth the asking price.

Now back to the question you're evidently trying to swerve & we all know why... :-|

1. Brighton bought Cucurella for £15m 12 months ago.

2. City were willing to more than double the amount Brighton paid for the player.

3. Brighton reportedly want nearly FOUR TIMES what they paid for him 12 months ago.

Q: Who's bringing inflationary pressure into football & ruining it so smaller clubs can't compete. City or Brighton? :-/

We’ve done pretty well on second choices however that wasn’t the same summer. That was a season later, in between walking away from Maguire and signing Dias, Liverpool romped away with the league assisted by Laporte’s injury. You could say short term pain long term gain but no one knows for sure.
