I’ve been saying this all last week, it’s easy for people to just say “pay the extra £10m ffs” but you’ve all completely missed the significant wording in any tweets or quotes… “Brighton are sticking firm on their valuation of £50m+” or “Brighton still want in excess of £50m+”.
£50m was never going to buy him, that’s their ok we’ll listen price, their starting point or rather the buying clubs starting point! They’ll have some daft figure of £60-70m and will accept somewhere in the middle. There’s a reason a contractor never wants to give you a ballpark figure, they could quote you £180-200+ for a job but when it’s finished they bill you £220. You’d kick off and quote the £180, it’s how our brains work, we only ever hear the lowest number and not the entire scenario.
I’ll ask again though as I’ve still not had an answer, what makes Cucurella one of the highest priced LB’s in the world were we HAVE to just throw another £10m at our valuation to start negotiating? I genuinely don’t see what it is. Any LB before that’s gone for similar amounts has won trophies, been an established international and deserved a high fee/wage based on achievements. So again, why does Cucurella command such a high fee?
