Amazing how Chelsea get a free ride from the media with their outrageous spending. Lukaku bought for £97 million and loaned back to after one season to Inter after being a total flop. Kepa bought for £72 million only to be replaced by Mendy and now on the verge of being loaned to Napoli. Timo Werner bought for £47 million and now due to be loaned back to RB Leipzig after 2 seasons and 10 league goals. Chilwell 50 million and now Cucurella £55 million rising to £62 million.

Fair point, and with inflation fees will almost invariably rise over time. Not every transfer sets a precedent though. Sometimes you get mad outliers. Kepa for £72m being an example (note the recurring theme).

We havn`t been "gazumped" at all by Chelsea.
We walked away days ago and even then they probably thought they could get him for £45M, when our top bid was only £40M.

It's worth remembering that we''ve still got arguably the best two full-backs in the league in Walker and Cancelo.

I'm sure we'll sign a decent LB before the window closes to rotate with those two and then identify someone better over the next 12 months just like we did with Dias and Haaland.

Ah, looks like it's done and dusted. Sad from our end, one of the most committed and hardworking players we've ever had, easily one of the most talented and just so much fun to support, plays the game with a smile on his face. Shame we only had him for a year, shame for him he couldn't team up with Pep, maybe one day as I've no doubt Cucu is the real deal.
