Interesting comments from Bloom. Encouraging for us, not so much for the Brighton fans who were Villa-like in being adamant Bloom would be a ballache to deal with.

It’s simple - lodge a bid and he’ll move. None of this shite that he prefers to live at the seaside. He has all his life after football to be on the beach, while he’s playing I bet he’d rather be challenging for things.

Bloom knows that and won’t ruin his business model and getting players in the future by making it a nightmare for a player to move onto something new at the first chance he gets.

I spoke to an Arsenal fan many years ago in a pub in Didsbury (he was in his 90s at the time) and he swore Doherty was the best player he'd ever seen.

Since when does City "bid" for players in public? As always City operate in conversation with club and only bid when theres a verbal agreement. Odd thing to ask when both of these facts can be true at the same time...

Tony can say he's not got an official bid while there could be a verbal offer from City.

It's at least plausible for both clubs to want to be discreet about this. City won't want to be seen to be paying over the odds (having ended up with egg on our face big time for the Mendy business, for whom we reportedly paid a cool £51 million), and Bloom certainly won't want his supporters to feel that the jewel in their crown has been underpriced. The very public business of Kane will have left a bad taste as well. It won't stop reporters from speculating about sums, of course, but I suspect this deal will be done very much behind the scenes, if it's done at all.

You were probably totally right about that info. Although i dont think people understand that City talk with clubs and dont make public bids like the rags does, hence Blooms comments. They are probably in deep talk and just slowly awaiting Sterlings transfer to go through.

It seems like it's a 5-10m difference between City and Brighton. It'll get there, imo.

I think it’s pretty timely Bloom coming out with this comment now, shortly after them turning down a bid.

Brighton still haven’t sold their season ticket allocation (which are now on open sale), so they can’t be seen to be selling off their best players, especially given that Bissouma was sold way below market value, and so far they have only brought in a couple of kids.

Exactly this……most of us do accept this is how it works. Where Bloom will play hardball is the number, but if City want him and meet Bloom’s valuation it’ll happen (and be ‘undisclosed’ when it does so we’ll all carry on guessing what the number was).

but undisclosed would say you havent got the fee the fans wanted? i think it will be around £40m with add ons up to £50m.

No….our transfer fees are ALWAYS undisclosed, in or out. Think you’re right, it’ll take somewhere around £50m with most of it up front
