Deal will probably get done, but not as a result of Bloom softening IMO. As and when it happens (I don’t see a bidding war either - think it’s City (Pep) or no-one), it’ll be ‘undisclosed’ with both sides claiming they got a good deal, none of us will know the final numbers.
Even if its 50m its a good deal. We get a player we desperately need and want who knows the league and also knows how pep will want him to play. Yes he has to perform but he is an improvement on what we have had over the last few years...makeshift left backs in Delph and Zinchenko

Now 50m is great for you guys but ONLY if you use it wisely.. ..and strengthen your squad...let's see what happens......let's hope Bloom is as good as you lot think he is when it comes to spending the money

Ok - I’ll try and break it down for you so it’s easier to understand.

I’m working on the assumption that a second bid has been rejected, as we know one went in this week - and Cucurella has just handed in a transfer request. It stands to follow - but it’s still as assumption.

At no point have I mentioned numbers - that’s entirely in your own head - but what I did say was in three way negotiations when you hit an impasse, generally all three parties will need to shift their positions slightly towards the middle to make a deal happen.

Cucurella has done his part by handing in a TR, which has a financial value to it as he forfeits his loyalty payments. That helps bridge the gap.

City will then, I would suggest, up their offer slightly to bridge the gap further. My suggestion was they’ll do this because the player has shown his commitment and gone the extra mile by handing in a TR - and they don’t want to leave him stewing at his club having chucked a grenade into their relationship.

But for the deal to happen, Bloom will need to shift his position too. Which is an interesting one, as if he doesn’t he’s putting it out there that he will block an ambitious players move when a bigger club comes calling. This will have repercussions in future transfers for Brighton.

That’s what I’m saying. And in that context, I’d imagine City will have agreed with his agents that they’re willing to match them in advance.

It’s precisely because I do trust Txiki, Ferran, Omar and the player acquisition team that I’d imagine this is the game they’re playing in getting this over the line.

Now I’ll ask you the same question - what are you talking about when you say we’re at £40m, and if we’re willing to go any higher we might as well pay them £50m?

That’s some fucking bizarre logic.

So let’s say we decide we’re willing to go over £40m to meet Cucurella’s efforts to get this over the line. What you’re saying is don’t bother going to, say, £42m - just go straight to £50m and be done with it?

Costing us an extra £8m for absolutely nothing?

If that’s your perspective and insight on sound negotiation tactics, all I can say is I’m glad you’re nowhere near our negotiating team mate.
I don’t know anything about second 40m bid. I said you might as well pay 50m becaue everyone keeps moving goalposts here. 40m is already us changing our stance from 30m, cucurella has done his part, now it is up to brighton. You are making it sound like city are doing nothing to help complete the deal.

City have placed one bid of 30m. There is no 40m bid yet, most reports now have said they are willing to go around 40m, that is a big compromise and showing our willingness to up our bid.

My main point though is that I don’t think transfer requests mean much in the grand scheme of things. Brighton are the ones that need to change their stance, city are obviously willing to talk. I doubt this makes a difference for brightons recruitment, how many kids from the slums of brazil or ecuador would turn down the chance to make 10k a week from brighton and get premier league exposure?

My dad was complaining about how my mum will remember completely innocuous comments he made months and years ago and bring them up to try and win current arguments that have no connection whatsoever.

I asked if she had duplicate bluemoon accounts.
Had the **** on ignore for ages but still take him off every now and then to see if he’s still a ****. Not been disappointed as yet.

*not your dad..* :-)

At £50m it’d be cheaper to get our lawyer’s on the the job to get Mendy off ; )
Hopefully with the transfer request it’ll get done at £37m-£40m plus £5m in addons
Don’t see us paying £50m, which would be a shame cos he looks the best option at the minute (imo)

Didn’t see you guys lifting the premier league trophy last year so wage bill means jackshit.
Not in the context of a question about inflation. Ok for you to triple his wages but not ok for us to more than double our investment?

Cucurella 4/11 to sign. Some good money to be made if you think he will join us. After the transfer request I was expecting the odds to be more in our favour tbh

We also had a Wum Brighton fan on yesterday who told us they were making him the highest paid player ever for Brighton with a new 5 year contract.
Well that panned out well didn`t it.
Transfer dealings are fluid though. It is possible that they have offered him a contract that makes him their highest paid player. He has his heart set on us now, it is also possible that if we don’t sign him, he signs a new mega contract with brighton.

I know it makes no sense but we know how life moves on quickly.
