I went to buy a car priced at £7250. . I offered £6500 because it was exactly what I needed. I checked up and he was right - so I paid up and had 3 years very good motoring.
Personally I think we acted like arseholes on this.

Except in this case we would find another lb that's just as good if not better.

Or I want to sell you my house for £500,000 (which you can afford) but you only value it at £400,000. Do you buy my house for £500,000 or look for alternatives that you think represent better value for your money?
