Marc Vivien Foe

One of my all time favs and I do believe the transfer to us was all but sealed for around £2.2 mil, I'm sure when he first joined he played in a deeper midfield position and was good but not great but towards the end of the season he was pushed forward a bit and went on a goalscoring run and looked like a world beater. Will always be a legend to me and I admit I cried like a baby when I heard the news he'd passed away.

RIP MVF

It's totally irrelevant as to his playing merits (personally I wasn't a fan at all but it doesn't matter).

I recall City making a big play about looking after his family at the time but I've no idea to what extent they did. I suggested that City should host a pre season tournament between ourselves, West Ham, Lyon and Lens (his former clubs) in the style of the one that Arsenal host each summer.

Let's not be silly here - MVF was a million miles from being the player Yaya is.

what's this got to do with the price of eggs? ludicrous discussion - he wasnt as good as hart in goal either - but he was a damn fine fella, much loved by family, friends and the clubs he played for - can't we leave it at that?

MVF was a class above most of the other players who in fair at the time weren't great! No disrespect to his abilities tho. If I remember correctly his loan had expired at City and Portsmouth (big spenders at the time) were in discussions to sign him from Lyon on a 2 year contract, we offered him another 1 season loan. There is no real point to the latter of my post but he could've actually followed the likes of David James and Andy Cole to Fratton Park for the money!! Any RIP MVF I remember his time here with great affection.

Perhaps read the whole thread fella before you jump the gun. People on the first pages suggested he was as good as yaya. Rightly or wrongly when people make wild statements like that people who seen foe and the actual level he played at will comment.

As a man I believe he was one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. As a player we have blue tinted specs ok the majority of us when recalling foe as a player. Obviously because the tragic way he was taken from us.

He was a good player but nothing more. Some comparing him to yaya is moronic. He was in a 9th placed team in the prem.

He wasn't going to join us that summer and apparantly had already had something in line to join Portsmouth. I thin that shows the level he was at too, if he was anything as good as people make out on here a top top club would of come in for him as arry likes to say.

Horrible, tragic and gut wrenching end to his life however don't make that make him ten times the player he was.

It's about opinions. Personally, I really rated him. Box to box, could win a tackle, too.

What has the fact that he was in a 9th placed team got to do with anything? Prior to their win against Swansea, Liverpool sat in 9th position. By your definition, does this mean Luis Suarez isn't actually that good? Or Steven Gerrard?

Gio Kinkladze was relegated to the old Third Division with us. Did you not rate him, either?

Going off your logic, how do you rate Tom Cleverley? He is currently in a team 12 points clear at the top of the premier league.

I've seen Yaya play some howlers for City like Southampton for starters!

Yes I agree Yaya has done some great things for us especially at key times in big games but to dismiss Foe as a million miles away is rather silly.

As I've posted already, Foe's goal ratio is better (and that was in a team that created less, scored less and played on poorer surfaces too!) than Yaya's.

His box to box running was more consistent that Yaya's but not as quick. His tackling ability was similar although he was not as physically strong or as good in the air.

All comparisons are subjective of course, however if both were playing today at their peak and for sale simultaneously, then Foe would cost £20m whilst Yaya would be £25-30m.

Now that may be £5-10m apart in sterling but it is no way a million apart in miles and anyone who believes that really should take their Yaya tinted specs off and watch him play when we don't have possession.

Spot on and peoples views differ. My view is because of his tragic passing he is regarded as a world beater. In a similar way whoever gets murdered they are always an angel and wouldn't hurt a fly etc. I loved foe, also met him at parrs wood, lovely man.

The first halr or the season people forget how poor foe was aswell he onLy picked up in the second half of the season.

by his league position I was pointing out he finished 9th and then was on the verge of joining Portsmouth. My point was the level he played at and where he was apparantly going and then in my view comparing to yaya is laughable. Played in the greatest team, won champions leagues etc.

Where is he regarded as a world-beater? Just accept that some rated him highly, even if you didn't.

People are comparing him to Yaya mate. There lies the problem. I do accept people rated him, on the same level you should appreciate some people aren't blinkered by his sad passing.

That'd be a damn fine remembrance idea for the 2013/14 pre-season. Even if it was at youth level. The gesture and the sign of future generations playing in a tournament under his name would be a great way to say thanks.
