Marco Verratti

But this strategy can have its risks. We aren't the most prestigious club out there, Most players go to a club who offers the most anyway. Example being Mbappe and Neymar at PSG

When Pep will be gone, do City go back to paying up to compensate for the loss of prestige Guardiola brings? We probably have to, unless we happen to win the CL before he leaves.

Agreed. But don't use 'Pep' and 'be gone' in one sentence please! ;)

I have to say the squad strategy/philosophy City follows right now is fantastic.

If match officials and Liverpool police do their job we might even be more successful.

I followed it as Jorginho is the kind of player I really enjoy watching.

It’s hard to know if we had been willing to pay Napoli more a deal could have been done earlier before Sarri moved to Chelsea, or it just would have stalled as well as Jorginho waited for the Chelsea move.

My point on Verratti is I think any other window if and it’s a Big if he is available at a cost of £80 million we would buy him.

I’m taking my lead from Sam Lee that City have briefed they do not want Verratti.

I hope it is a smokescreen and we do want him, but I think we will go with what we have.

Your right mate....20/20 hindsight is a wonderful thing, maybe things could have been done differently, maybe it wouldnt have made any difference and Chelsea was always going to be his 1st choice..club is moving on!;)

Goal did a nice report about the Jorginho transfer and covers much of the situation. I'm not concerned that he went to Chelsea, we cant control what these players do but for me its the sentence below is where we could have done better.....Goal (Sam Lee) reported earlier today that we were "so confident" that deal was done we had even stopped looking at any back-up options. If Goal are correct, that we put all our eggs in Jorginho's basket then I think thats where the only error was made...the deal is never done until Jorginho is holding up a city shirt! Now we talking about a lad currently without a work permit, having only played 2minutes in the last 3 months of the season for a Girona, as possible 1st team cover for Fern?.....I know we all have different views but this seems a very risky move.

Like you, I hoping there is a real chance at Verratti..Could be the missing piece for winning the CL!!;)

Anyway, not trying to disagree with anyone on the Jorginho transfer, this has been discussed many times, just saw the report and wanted to forward it for anyone interest...

"The blow would be to come here when he prefers Chelsea,” Guardiola contested at his Friday press conference, yet the Premier League champions were so confident that they would get their man that they had not lined up any back-up options, and they are still scouring the market for potential alternatives.

Dinho is not dead you know
Just saying

No, but Yaya is gone and that creates a hole. Dinho did so well for City last season. I think it is hard to see him performing to the same high standard and managing suspensions and injuries.

We seem to be going into the season with an obvious weakness and one we have already identified. We seem to be happy going for a sticking plaster appoarch of playing a player there we must of deemed below Jorginho’s quality or not promoting a youth player.

I think people are just worried it will bite.

For me the first time in history City are truly are an elite team and the most attractive we have ever been for potential players. It seems the time to push on!

I know Karen!;) ...but clearly the club dont think he can do it all on his own, as targeted the position since Jan. Just like with David Silva, it would make sense to "manage" his game time this season to keep him fresh.....being "so confident that they would get their man that they had not lined up any back-up options, and they are still scouring the market for potential alternatives" was very risky move, especially now when you consider we discussing using a young lad with very little game time at top level, who currently doesnt even have a work permit, to fill that need. The positive thing is, if anyone can turn this lad into a world class DM, its Pep, right?;) Just dont like going into the season with a known weakness in the squad as feel we ready to take it up another level if we could fill this need.

Hold up...yaya leaving created a hole ? What exactly did he do last season

Fernandinho isn’t dead, but he is 33 and also playing in a very demanding role in 4 competitions. We need a long term replacement and he needs help too.
