He barely got a pass for the first half hour & tried to thread a couple of difficult passes through on occasion. But there was nothing sloppy about his passing. He looked to me like he did when he first got there, a little bit off the pace & a yard or two slower than at his best, but by the end of the game, he was starting to sidestep people & looking much more like it. I think he was just taken off to prevent injury.
He's got that Hazard-like ability to drop a shoulder and burst past someone with power that no one in our squad has. He looked very much like he was a little rusty, missing passes that he wouldn't normally, but in the second half he kept bursting past people for fun. There was one where he picked it up under pressure from two men on the touchline, only to just drop his shoulder and surge past them, so one of them gave him and industrial hack to teach him a lesson. (then he got brought off) It has to be said though, he takes some seriously poor set pieces, he'll fit right in with our team. Unlike our players though, he occasionally takes a good one that's really threatening, then will hit 2 or 3 awful ones.

I think the poor set pieces are also down to rustiness. I thought he took some good ones pre injury.
I think they're a bit of a mixed bag, sometimes they are excellent and have some real whip on them, sometimes they hit the first man. The poor floaty ones he's taken in the past couple of games I think probably are down to rustiness, as he doesn't normally float them. If he was here, then then I'd definitely have him on set pieces though, as he's better than what we have.

Well that sounds quite like Christian Eriksen's set pieces because he hits them with such power that ften they do wind up hittng the wall, but he does also score alot of beauties.

Lille are playing PSG in the cup tonight, but true to form, the manager has left the 3 best creative players on the bench and has filled the team with large, athletic donkeys instead. #bigstronglads. Huge shame as it would of been a good test for him, providing they ever passed him the ball along the ground, which you probably wouldn't bet on.

It looks a strange desicion but I get the feeling Lille's coach prefers clean sheets to plenty of goals.

I think he will make a sub appearance tonight.

He's just an incredibly negative manager who plays incredibly negative football. He started the season with incredibly negative, long ball tactics, but he's become increasingly negative with his selections as the season has gone on as well. They're averaging less than a goal a game and most of the goals they have scored have been by defenders.

Lopes should come on, as they are already losing, but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets 10 minutes of watching the ball sail aimlessly over his head.

Lopes on now...some of his team mates dont look like they could control their own water,Mendes looks shite......Lopes need to release earlier at times but not sure he will to some of these duffers.

Lopes movement off the ball poor, could be he is not fit after a layoff but would expect more if he was playing for City.

This Lille team are technically average if you ask me, lot's of long balls and defensive tactics as well, where are the midfield runners?

Lopes is a very fine young player but he is having to learn te hard way in this Lille side, it's almost like they are asking him and the other attackers to do it all on their own, scoring a goal that is.

PSG are not all that either, Chelsea should beat them over two legs.

I'm not really sure what the purpose of most of Lille's players is. No one moves, no one goes in the middle, no one runs in behind, no one seems capable of controlling the ball. They are atrocious. Lopes struggled, he always wants to go forwards but there just isn't anyone there so he either has to try and force a pass that isn't there, or try and beat the entire team himself. The only other creative player, Bouffal had the same problem when he came on, stuck out on the other wing with no support and no movement inside of him. It's unclear what the manager thinks is going to happen?

That Koubemba in particular is spectacularly useless. They seem to have signed a striker who scored 2 goals in 40 games of 3rd division football, who is about as bad as that suggests. Seriously, how do you sign and then play a striker who scores once every 20 games in semi-professional football? I'm beginning to truly hate Rene Girard, for subjecting me to this team. I feel very sorry for Lille fans, who seem to be surprisingly vocal and supportive for a team that play like they do.

They seem to have signed a bunch of people with no brains whatsoever. Some skill perhaps, & some can run a bit, but nothing else.

And Liverpool can look forward to one of them leading their attack in the future.

Lopes can't play any kind of educated football, as he won't see the ball again if he passes it. If he's going to play for City next season though, he will have to find a way around it. Otherwise he will not have much chance to impress to get a place in the senior squad. Especially difficult to do it purely on pre season, with the standard of competition coming through, who have all been playing together.
