Mark Hughes and Manchester City F.C.

Your right, Mark Hughes is a football genius.

ADUG should give him a 10 year contract and 1 billion, because we have sacked too many managers, and because we also need to support this best young British manager we have ever had.

I am going to arrange a big end of season get together so we can all celebrate going forward with Sparky.

Thanks Sparky for saving us !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And taking us forward

That's the spirit! Here was I thinking you where one of those knobs who wanted Sparky out!

Personally, i think success will come to this club one way or another. If we stick with Hughes we will be winning trophies in 2,3,4 years, if we go for a top class boss who can attract better calibre of players we will be winning much sooner.
Like Scolari, or Ramos?

Yep

Mind you Ramos won more in English football in 11 months than Hughes has done in what 5 years?

Which kind of tickles me on so many levels :)

Just goes to prove that winning a cup is down more to luck than ability you numpty!

Sorry but dont you know some expected us to win the Premiership,UEFA Cup, FA Cup, League Cup and probably the fair play league in his first season ;)

I expected us to finish above Fulham who finished 19 points behind us last season. You can moan about expectations but the truth is that we have underachieved this season by any reasonable measure. We will finish with less points than less season. Is it your expectation to spend £100 million and do worse than last season?

Lets just pick a team who have overachieved to make our point shall we!

......Are ONE SEASON into a complete rebuilding programme. The manager is only TEN MONTHS into the job and has only had the benefit of a few days of the summer and one complete January transfer window to improve a team that had won only a handful of games in the previous six months. If we were to finish 8th he will have done as good as any manager we have had while in the premier league and a 7th place would make him our most successful. It has been said many times on this forum that patience is the key and the most successful clubs have been the most patient with their manager in troubled times. We as a team are light years behind the likes of United, Chelsea and Arsenal in terms of experience at the highest level but we are closing that gap and with the addition of 3 or 4 quality players in the summer we will get even closer. I would think that we will be ready to challenge the "big four" by 2010/11. All I would say to the doubters is it will come, be patient and enjoy the ride!
Quality post that mate I agree 100%.

Can you just educate me on the last "lucky" manager to win a Cup?

Worse though is the reality is not only is Hughes not good enough, he's not even going to be lucky enough either!

I dont think he will be able to get the best out of any major signings we make in the summer. I think Sven last season done a better job overall than Hughes has done so far this season. Sven knew his time was up last March and it transfered down to the players. Sven got a group of players together and they all wanted to play for him. In Hughes team I dont think everyone wants to play for him. I often wonder how much more we would have improved under Sven if he was still the boss as I think he would have got us into the Europa League by now. A seasoned manager who gets respect from all major players the team would have been a lot closer to Everton and Villa this season under Sven.

As for Hughes how much more money are the club going to waste on him to bring in more of his players. Will his excuses be good enough next season for the board. There are some top class managers out there who would love the chance to manage this team. The board must know that. This may sound mad but for Hughes to have any chance next season he needs to concentrate on the league in a ideal world we will miss out on Europa League so you have the league and the two cups to focus on you never know we might get a cup final and once your there you have a chance. Hughes has to do better than what they have done this season.

By some people shortsightedness on here.

We stick with Hughes and success will ultimately come.

If that's the case, then surely sticking with the same group of players, if the argument appears to be one of consistency, will us the league in the next two years?

Bullshit, they won't.

Quality counts, both on and off the field!

Don't grant excuses for a piss poor manager, when by the same token we all know we have players who are also not good enough.

It's the reason he IS being sacked.

Bang on the money.

Wholesale changes on and off the field is the only way we will get anywhere.

Im more than happy to give a manager and players time if they are showing me that they have the passion, required intelligence, and ability needed to show genuine progress over any given period of time. But there is not too many on the field and certainly nothing stood on the sidelines that show me they will progress our club.

hey i had a yankee on the first four..forgot about the fair play league though!

I'm so tired of hearing his name.

If he stays another season we'll all still be having this very debate this time next year.

I have never been fickle enough to jump from one "camp" to another and then back again, I've based my opinion over the course of an entire season. I began as a sceptic, however I was more than willing to give the man a chance. I gave him numerous opportunities to win me over, to convince me he's the man for the job, to convince me he is in his element - all he has managed to do is convince me otherwise. I've been consistent in my opinion, and until there is any reason to see otherwise I shall remain so.

I want one question answered;

Is Mark Hughes worth all of this, all of the endless bickering, the destructive dividing force he creates among the fans?

If you ask me we need a unifying force, a focal point, a manager who we can all unequivocally support.

That man is not Mark Hughes.
