Ancelotti?......Capello?

Capello - err different league mate

Ancelotti - has adapted well and plays a very modern English style of football

Mancini - defend, defend, sneak a goal, defend like hell, defend, concede coz we can't defend, struggle, game over, move on
Ancelotti - Inherited 'A+' squad.
Mancini - Inherited 'B- to B+' squad.

That's why Mancini got to do different tactic here.

Ancelotti and Mancini like to play the diamond formation as the preferred formation which can switch to 442 to 433 with players interchanging. It tends to be narrow which was one of the concerns raised about Ancelotti when he first arrived but the Chelsea players have adapted and it works well.

Wenger raised the point in their recent 2-0 defeat away to Chelsea that Arse played all the football and had most of the possession etc and he is right as Chelsea just sat back (ie defended) and ruthlessly put them to the sword on the break (ie sneaked a goal or in this case 2). Job done in the first half and the rest of the game was a formality.

The difference lies in the squads and playing a preseason with the gameplan in mind etc. What Mancini is trying to do is get the same discipline into the squad and make it more adaptable so that the team can respond to different circumstances during a game as well as making sure we don't leak goals and also get results. We on the other hand just want to ride his case because he hasn't sorted it out in 5 minutes and is not winning games by 3 goals or more - not that we were doing much of that before he arrived but listening to some people you would think we were f**king Barca under Hughes.

Agree with most of that Bob, with the overide that Roberto does like to play with players who go wide when going forwards, his big problem is the dogs breakfast of a squad left by the numpty, with lack of any real options thanks to no creative playmaker to boss midfield.

He`s also hampered with high expectations because of the cost of the team, now looking like a lot of money for some very average an even p*ss poor buys, with gaps in vital area`s and too many players of the same type.

Mancini sent Robinho to Brazil and Ireland/SWP/Bellamy to the bench, is it any wonder we're not creating chances. To be fair to Hughes he did try to tempt Kaka too.

How dare he play some of the most exciting attacking football seen in Sky Blue shirts for 25 years.........battering the likes of Arsenal (twice) & Chelsea who usually both pummel us. Then he dared to get us to a semi-final and on course for 4th place, all in 18 months. What a dick ;P

^^^^^^^ I agree with this and some may wonder why the rags call us berties. Hughes could have won the leauge and the carling cup, but to the Anti MH brigade it still wouldnt have been good enougth. How sad!

Seriously he spent £150 million on players in those 18 months, i wouldnt of expected anything less than what he was doing until we won 1 game in 10. Couldnt beat the rags in 3 games before the league cup so i dont know where you get he would of won league cup, Arsenal played there foetuses against us in the league cup and again i would expect us to of beat them, and chelsea game without given it be a different story

I mean last season hughes did an amazing job spending 80 mill and just saving us from the relegation battle he got us into!!

If ever a manager spent and wasted so much money in the history of football it has to be thec one and only ex rag ...Mark Hughes. lets look at some of the rubbish buys and the costs.

Number 1 /.....Addie ...£25 million.. Number 2/ Lescott ...£25 million...Number 3/ Santa Cruz ...£18 million...4/ Toure ...£12 million.. paying 50% to much for De Jong ..Bridge..Bellamy..( knees /age ). and overspend of £100 million plus .

In addition all the top players would not play for him as a manager which is how he figured in the world standings. NEVER AGAIN PLEASE.
Stop being a twat

Dont let facts get in the way of a good put down!!

One win in five. That is a fact. And one that supports my point.
When we had a similar type of points return under Mark Hughes(1 point a game; all those draws), Hughes was getting slaughtered on here. My point then is the same as now; we have to get behind the manager and players.

Dont matter who manages us as we are richest team in the world and will always pay 5-6 mill on top of prices!!

Ade is worth around 20 mil, year before barcelona ready to bid 40+, 12 mill for bridge aint terrible
And as for Bellamy, have a word with yourself, he been sensational since joining us

By the way hated hughes!!

all very good and valid points the OP didn't seem to appreciate.
