Mark Hughes: I compromised my own values at Man City

I notice the myth of attacking football under Hughes is persisting, instead of the reality of about three attacking games and the rest long ball shit where we would whack it up to Ade and hope he could do something with it.

Check this board for the old threads; nearly every match was just terrible

Playing errors you mean? Did you watch that abysmal match at Spurs? A 36 year old left back and Robinho as the covering left midfielder against Aaron Lennon - even on FM you wouldn't select that as a serious line-up!

I will give you that one but that was after he knew he was out. And believe me he did know he was out before that game rather than that being what caused it.

Or playing Micah at LB at Boro, and then when everyone seen he couldn't play LB he plays him there again against Bolton.

"I like to watch attacking football."

Its a lovely sentiment, but means fuck all when you cant defend for treacle. I dont believe for one second that City will one day regret getting rid and I backed the fella when he was in charge.

Onward.

My last say on the matter.

We are in the lead against Liverpool and Zab gets sent off. We have a centre half in midfield, Vinny, who could slot in at the back while Micah Richards moves to right back. Job done.

Well, it should have been but Hughes, for reasons known only to himself, brought on Fernandes and put him at right back only for him to be skinned time after time and it to lead to our defeat.

That was the precise moment my faith and full backing disappeared.

Christ.

Can we leave his name consigned to the history books please?

Under the title 'failure' - obviously.

If I ever have to set sight upon his mug before my timely demise it'll be too soon, and I'd appreciate it if other posters could refrain from posting his exhausted propaganda, it belongs on Fulham's forums now.

Quote, ‘Look, we’d drawn a lot of games — too many — but we were a team still forming. I knew there wasn’t much time to get it right, because I sensed they were looking for an excuse to change it.

‘The chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, turned up unannounced for a surprise visit and it was obvious they were going to sack me. Then we beat Arsenal 3-0 and Chelsea 2-1.

'It was only when we lost at Tottenham…well, they had been looking for that chance. I wasn’t their man, I wasn’t their appointment.’
Frosty relationship: Hughes recalls the moment he knew he was going to be sacked when chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak turned up unannounced one day.

How did the press find out then, no doubt he let it be known to the media about his replacement and consequently caused City no end of embarrassment by leaking it and he won't keep his mouth shut in the future either, despite his severance package. He will always be a failure at City in my eyes, the crafty, self serving individual.......

What does he actually mean when he says he compromised himself? He didn't kick up a fight when the Chairman said "see ya fella"? But if he got a golden handshake then that would explain it, so its his look out...

I thought I must have been imagining all those dull matches. Particularly away from home which was pretty much a case of defend until we concede, then defend some more.

Fulham probably not the worst place for him, that constitutes a good away day for them (games against us excepted).

LOL at all the bitching and hate towards Hughes. Anyone would think he was some war criminal or something.

Oh, hang on...

I expected more positivity in the last third of the article.

But there wasn't. Obviously.

"I improve teams".

Oh yes, in his first season it only took him £120 million to take us from 9th (Sven's season) to 10th.
