2 year loan deal with Celtic.
We can't recall him 'till the end of next season. He was in & around the first team squad for long enough last season to judge that. My guess that we've made the decision already

18 months loan.

Quite likely Roberts' future will be in the middle of the pitch anyway.

Also he was injured for most of the time he was with the first team squad last season, and it was under Pellegrini so I'm not sure how relevant it is anymore.

Of course not but I sometimes wonder when any of our youngsters will get a real chance. When we signed Roberts people were saying when is x,y, z going to get a chance?
Surely you understand that?

I know.. just think it was daft, could've just given them an option of a 2nd season if we allowed it this summer. Just hope the kid continues to improve this season which I think he will.

We have a manager who repeatedly says playing youth is key to his philosophy and has the record to back it up, and who's actually been accused of preferring cantera's (academy players) to equally talented outside players.

We have an owner and chairman who have been incredibly clear they want youth players making it into the said and have backed it up with £200m investment in the academy.

At some point you have to just accept that everything is in place for them to come through and they will if they are good enough.

Also - Celtic refused a shorter loan deal because they had no interest in putting in the effort of integrating him into the team, playing him over one of their own players and then him pissing off before the Champions league qualifiers.

It was 18 months or nothing, and fair enough. Loan deals have to benefit everyone.

No not really. It seems too many are under the impression our youngsters are not good enough. Some of these newly purchased youngsters will get beat out by some kids in our academy. Others will beat some of our current youngsters to the first team. Everyone has a shot, but only the most talented will succeed. Regardless of when they joined us. Once you join, you are a member. As legitimate as the kid who joined at 9/years of age. What determines who makes the main squad is talent. Not favoritism.

I'll give you that one. Once Pellers knew he was on his way he totally lost focus, (in league terms at any rate).

Whilst he did make some baffling tactical decisions, at times, last season, I don't think our relitively poor league form was entirely down to him. The lengthy injuries to Kun & KDB were a major factor, and couldn't have hit us at a worse time. I also think Think that twunt Clattenberg's performance in the league game, here, against Tottenham was the last straw, & finally convinced him, and the players, that, as we weren't exactly "playing on a level playing field" when it came to the premiership title race, (I have never heard him so angry, after a game, than he was that day). we might as well throw all their eggs in the CL basket & see how far we could get.

I am really excited about this guy. I think he can slot right into the squad and does not need to be loaned out. That said we would already have Navas and probably Sane on that wing. I do feel we are looking at him to come in after a year when Navas moves on.

That's the conclusion I've came to as well. I've been unfairly harsh on Navas. Hopefully he slots in well this year.

Can someone post the work permit rules again. I was also told by a Colombian that there's an extra £2M we could pay for a special permit. Deal will probably be mentioned during the second leg of the Copa Libertadores.

Thanks for posting mate!;) Reading that it looks very promising that he would get a work permit.....anyone know if the plan is to loan him out to get experience, even if he could get that work permit? Might this be a Sane plan B move? thanks

You'd think more of one for the future. We haven't done enough business directly from South America but we should attenpt to emulate the Porto and Atletico models.

I've gotten 3 responses on Twitter from journalists who cover South America extensively and it looks like so far there's strong interest. A bit hard to get the permit since he just burst on the scene even though he's gone straight into the senior national team and no deal until after the final Copa Lib game 27th. I did ask if it was at all possible to strike a deal with him and the club earlier and still allow him to finish Copa like several other players have done this window and was told its possible we could do something similar.

If we do have to loan him out, we should loan him to Celta Vigo or Villareal who are missing quality attackers now.

Good shout on potential loan moves. I know it seems obvious, but the club really should be looking at the best potential destinations for playing time, rather than just whoever is willing to take the player.

Emulating Porto is impossible because of the work permit situation. Signing players like Falcao for €4m or James Rodriguez for €5m would just lead to scenarios like Arsenal have had with Wellington Silva- he was an Arsenal player for 5 years before he could get a permit.

For us, the only South American signings we should be making are the ones who are being hyped up as the next big thing - like Moreno is.

That's pretty much what I Intended - low cost initial outlay and loaned to Spanish/Portuguese teams. If they are good enough, they should get caps etc and make a permit easier or at the least could be aold for profit.

He's getting the caps part down already, at 19 he's close to double digits already for a top ranked nation. I really think he should get one considering Chelsea have gotten permits for players of lesser talent. The loan should just be to guarantee plenty of playing time vs permit issue. He's one of the best talents in all of Sourh America.

I know with the work permit rules we might have to do it but it's a shame if we have to loan him out....Pep could develop him better than any club in europe!

O Jogo with the report because Benfica were interested. Glad we're supposedly beating them early before he costs £60M. Looks like the loan move is for European experience which is great if we're getting him on a 5 year deal.
