City have Haaland and Rodri.

Two players you can’t replace.

it doesn’t matter what cdm our rivals get they won’t be the same level as rodders.

Same with a forward hence why we look for someone who can play across the front.

The same approach is needed for midfield. We need a player who can play a few roles.

It’s tricky but only because we have the best players in their positions.
 
6 months ago, Arsenal fans were claiming Merino was the better player, he'd complete their midfield etc etc. They're already writing him off claiming he does nothing.

Zubimendi doesnt improve them, he will just replace partey like for like, they're just paying for a fit more often and younger version of him. Eats into their budget for players they need to actually improve. The £800m Stoke just become the £850m Stoke.

Disagree. That MF still doesn't move me. Think a striker, winger and attacking mid are all bigger needs.

Zubi is a good player and there will be a need because Partey/Jorginho are out of contract, I think. But there are a lot of good players.
 
I wonder if this is why we haven't heard anything about a CDM. Wanted Zubi but only leave at the end of the season. Tried getting Luiz on loan but they wanted a obligation so would have meant we then wouldn't have room for Zubi.

Arsenal may have now beaten us to it, makes sense for him as no Rodri to compete with.

Or we are still in for him and then plan is Akanji/Stones in midfield with more centre backs.

He was never the logical fit for this team due to the presence of Rodri. When Rodri comes back, he has nowhere to play. That's just the reality of the situation. He doesn't offer a ton going forward in possession that we don't have already.
 
How many defensive midfielders do these guys need ? aren't they suppose to buy a striker ?
 
This has to mean that both Partey and Jorginho are on their way out.

Partey likely due to the allegations, and Jorginho's contract will run out.

As funny as it is that Arsenal are buying another defensive midfielder, it makes sense.

Rice is so obviously an ‘8’ but they insist on playing him in the ‘6’ and buying others instead. Strange really.

Good signing for them, though.

The glass half full in me wants to believe we asked about him, he said not until Summer and we swiftly moved on given the need for reinforcements now.

Their recruitment after a short window of being pretty good has taken a nosedive.

They will get that too, rice will move further forward and partey is either deep on the bench or gone and if the rumours are true that may be why

But Rodri could easily be an 8. Vision, drive, finishing and close control in abundance.
