Nobody is stating otherwise, everyone including myself is saying although they may get another DM and improve there overall squad, that won’t solve there lack of goals, they need a striker more than a DM.
 
A very good player. Would have happily took him in the summer or now. Fully fit Rodri a lot better and hopefully he gets back to his best early next season. Think he improves Arsenal but without fixing the main issue upfront.
 
Not excatly the player Arsenal need either and as I keep mentioning he is carrying an injury. Not ideal in trying to get to grips with a new league.

My point has nothing to do with us. Im just pointing out that a good player can be good even if he does not join us

We dont have to pretend its a silly decision by the other team. Zubimendi wasn't high on my list personally, as i wanted a high energy technical hybrid player. Guimaraes, Palacios, Reijnders etc being players i preferred. But i can see a world Where Zubi and Rodri form the Double base of one of the World's best Midfield. Its not beyond imagination.

I hope we go on and get our hybrid CM. But Zubi is clearly a very good player. By almost all standards better than Merino.

This by the way is not to suggest Merino sucks or that Zubu will be great... Sure he could flop, just like any new signing might. But a very good player is what his history says he os.

Would you say the same argument applies to our 3 pending additions too?
 
I kind of wonder why clubs haven't been falling over themselves to sign him. We're in a position where we need someone to act as an understudy to Rodri and the player that literally does that for Spain is available with a release clause, but we haven't gone for it. That suggests to me that perhaps he's not the great bargain everyone seems to think based on his performances in the Euros. I can't say I watch Spanish football, but I've watched enough international tournaments to know never to sign someone based on their performances for their country.

Perhaps he doesn't want ro be an understudy for both club and Country.

Liverpool clearly wanted him but he declined. I think he changed his mind and decided to move after the summer. Hence this nove.

Only seen him play once, last night against Villarreal. Saw cannot make a true assessment.
Sociedad won 1-0, but wasn't really aware of him.
Gut feeling, he is too lightweight for the Premier League and not good enough for City.
Free kicks are given frequently in La Liga, that would be seen as a robust challenge in the Premier League.
Not the answer I feel...

My logic is that no-one knows Spanish football better than our staff, and they're not going for him, which says a lot.

I’ve only seen him when he came on for Rodri and he looked okay. My view is Spain play him as a Rodri back up and not alongside Rodri. That isn’t what we need and it’s also not what Zubimendi needs either.
I alway said if Pep though otherwise and persuaded him he could play with Rodri then fair enough, never thought it was likely though. Don’t know who we want but know they need to be more Gundogan than Rodri.

Yes, absolutely. Anyone who thinks a 17/18 Yr old CB is going to be soon (or he's currently even close) an upgrade on our current CB's is on crack. Same with the bloke from Lens....who 99.9% of people had to Google to find out who he is (the 0.1% who had heard of him play 'xbox fifa')
....and suddenly, someone who no one took any notice of in Germany, is a guaranteed upgrade on Foden/Savinho/Doku/Bernado ;)
Zubamendi is a better signing by miles...unless one of our 3 surprise everybody.

Well no because they're not remotely similar circumstances and not comparable. You can perhaps say Marmoush is a direct replacement for Alvarez 6 months later i suppose, but the circumstances obviously arent the same. Alvarez wanted out and we'll end up spending roughly the same overall. The other targets are raw youngsters coming in to bolster a squad that should never have been this thin to begin with. Again, not the same thing.

Very good signing for arsenal and one that we should have been on. Also even though I’m happy with these supposed transfers I’m still perplexed that the one we really need a defensive mid is one we are not being linked with because our midfield is still slow and won’t get any faster in the second half of the season.

I wasn't asking of ot eas the same thing, rather i was asking if the same argument applies. Let me explain:

The argument goes Arsenal needs X ( A striker) but went and got Y (A DM) instead...

Isnt that analogous to Man City needs X ( DM/ CM) but went and got a Y and Z (CD and AM) instead...

So, my point is i don't aee how those arguing this is a bad move for Arsenal aren't arguing the same for us.
