ok ... we sign a 32 year old player on a 2 year contact for £4.2m from Ath. Madrid and they are set to sign Alderweireld from Ajax, a 24 year old, who apart from has more years in him, is a very good defender?

Not sure on this one, obviously better options were out there.

All the quote means is that they wanted a replacement lined up before releasing him. Atletico hadn't planned to sell Demichelis until we came along.

Looks superb in this video comp of him playing for malaga.

He's not that slow but he is definitely a decent defender. I'd rather sign him than Pepe.

He's worth the buy just to see him Judo kick the corner flag when he scores... He also looks a lot more comfortable on the ball than Garcia or Lescott. yes there are better options but we have a first choice center back pairing and dont need a £20 million I dont want to sit on the bench player. Demichellis is obviously happy coming here as a squad player thats what we wanted and needed

Excellent news. Hopefully we'll never have to see Garcia at CB again now.

Not wishing to bang the Garcia drum again but FFS the Barca boys should have been using him as a bargain tool in any deal to get a new centre back in. They must have seen the lack of depth we have in this position. Smacks of short-sightedness.

Maybe the reason he is coming because he has been on the be ch in Spain for a coue of games and sees an opportunity for first team games with our injuries and a manager who knows his game very well. We have ready seen that "holistic was bollocks with the departure of several youth team players last month so if Demichelis is good then Nasti - more than likely - will see his share of games from the bench, when Kompany returns to fitness.

Holistic doesn't mean youngsters will stay, which youngsters are they other than Suarez? Its obvious Nasty and Kompany are starters and Demi is for backup as he doesn't have much faith in Jolo.
