Martin Demichelis (continued)

I think it is fair to say he struggled after his knee injury just days after joining City, that he found it hard to adapt to a new league, new team mates, and probably a system from the opposition he was unsure of and the incessant closing down. He made a few too many mistakes early on, and to be honest I don't think Vinnie was great either at that time, but he has certainly endeared himself to me in every way possible recently.

Superb again tonight. Him and Vinny look solid and have a great understanding. Nice to have a centre back with finesse and intelligence.

3. Time to praise Demichelis

Martín Demichelis has been the butt of criticism at City this season, but if Liverpool possessed a player of the Argentine’s defensive discipline and nous, Brendan Rodgers’ team may now be in pole position for the title. Demichelis lacks pace, but he reads the game better than anybody else in the City back four and his ability on the ball goes unnoticed. With Vincent Kompany often breaking forward with the ball, Demichelis is happy to sit back and snuff out any danger before it emerges. As proved at Crystal Palace, Liverpool lack that kind of player and Demichelis has turned out to be a bargain buy for City.

Great point

And to think Demichelis ostensibly replaced Kolo Toure when he went to Liverpool. Funny how the Liverpool manager is lauded for rejuvenating players but has found no place for Kolo Toure.

They are a great combination, a calm passer and game reader, and a speedy aggressive athlete. I think that MDM has also cooled VK down from mad lunges.

Apart fro for fabulous goals and an overall confidence from the best team in England, my favourite moment was MDM pointing out the ball mark on he line when it came down off the crossbar.

I have noticed [probably easier to see on telly from 3k miles away than at the ground] that MDM does love his sarcasm and often ha a wry smile on his face. Both funny to watch and becalming for his team mates. We are lucky to have three fine Argies, each different but each essential in their own way. They are definitely my team for the World Cup [once England have gone out on penalties].

A happy day! CTID

It does raise the question, doesn't it? Do we in fact have a centre back problem, as we said we did for a large part of the first half of the season. Because Demichelis was simply impeccable tonight. He's looked so comfortable for the last couple of months, in fact the truth is he has been covering for Vinny's mistakes at times.
Can Nastasic get back in the team next season?

Well, with Lescott off and Mangala reportedly in, that would give us a very decent 4 in CD. You'd have to be pretty comfortable with any them alongside VK, or even deputising when he's out.

The turning point for him was hull away, he controlled the back line magnificently that day. Since then we are noticeably better at coming out in a line and catching teams offside - down to MDM imo.

He was never shit for us.
He was unfairly criticised when he made the occasional mistake but they were few and far between. Vinny has made more mistakes this season and probably last too but he has an established press image so the cheap papers back away from criticism. MDM was new, has long hair, took an English players spot and used guile rather than pace which made him an easy target both in the press and on here.
