Martin Demichelis (continued)

He is arguably the one who helped us win the title due to the defensive record at the end of the season. He knew what Pellegrini was all about and I think he really helped the back 4 when it came to pushing up all the time and catching attackers offside. From the hull game onwards it was really on show how the whole back 4 pushed up quickly and together to stop themselves having to defend crosses and just catching the other team offside time and time again. Everytime this was happening you saw him waving his hand and taking control of the situation. You only need to look at liverpools last few games and Sakho dropping back all the time to see how important this was for us and a great tactic when it works well.

Good points. Sakho was awful the last few games. Didn't want to take charge, step up. In the Palace game, all he did was retreat deeper and deeper which obviously invited more and more pressure. Didn't have the balls or experience to advance 10-15 yards higher up the pitch. Skrtel probably didn't help either.

We had to drop deeper a good 10 yards to play with DeMichelis in the back line for us NOT to be caught out and it took a good 3 or 4 months for Pellers to get there. He did mind and it paid off so I'm happy.

I'm not sure that's true at all. He was hammering into tackles up on the halfway line, trying to get a foot around in front of opponents, virtually all season

Go look at the player heat maps from earlier in the season compared with the end. It's a good 10 yards back towards our own goal. Our centre halves were nearly defending on the half way line for the first 3 months of the season.

it's not. he was very commonly playing passes well inside the opponents' half, as did vinny. they just switched off and when one of them did it either fern yaya or garcia would drop back

Geek alert question. Is Demi the first player we've had to wear a pony tail?
Who else?
