To be honest, I think another major contributing factor in his improvement was the players around him adjusting to his weaknesses. Kompany eventually ended up having to cover the entire pitch behind our defensive line as he realised just how easy it was for teams to lump it over MDM and just run on to it. As much as MDM played well, he put a very high strain on Kompany, which more than likely led to some of his mistakes.

I can't imagine he'll start for Argentina, as Garay doesn't have the mobility of Kompany to cover for him and I can't see Argentina playing with a deep defensive line.
Dont think thats fair or accurate.

The initial problems were Demichelis likes to control the line and Kompany likes roam and press causing a gap and uncohesive line. Look at how Demichelis organized the line at Hull when Kompany was sent off, we had them offside loads of times. I think simply put that Kompany and Demichelis learned to play together and have an effective line.
The Hull game isn't at all representative of the way we normally defend though, as we were down to 10 men so kept a far deeper line than normal, completely nullifying both his and Javi's lack of pace. With the line we normally keep, there is about 40 yards in behind our defenders for strikers to run into, which MDM simply cannot cover, so Kompany has to do it for him. Kompany has had to adjust his game to be prepared to run across in behind MDM, that's just a reality
From what I could see, especially from february onwards, it was demichelis covering for kompany half the time! Liverpool away, altho we got beat, and yes kompany wasnt even near fit, demichelis was immense. Everton away, old toilet, game after game he was fantastic. Barca home, he gave away the penalty but it was kompany who let messi through. And I could swear that demi got to him before the pen area! Anyways im rambling. I think demi is fantastic and I wouldnt be the slightest bit concerned if he partners vinnie next season. Experience counts for a lot and demi has been there and done it for years. Dont fix what isnt broken. Ill never forget mancini breaking up lescott and komps the second we won the league. We dont need to change just yet

Love Martin's experience, but surely Nastajic will start getting more game time, or try to salvage Micah at centerback (maybe staying home more often will sort out his injury problems).

Stick him up front in Serg's absence in the World Cup. Can't possibly do as little as Higuain has.

Agree with this .just thought it was a question of time him and Vinny forming an understanding .acctuatly felt sorry for him against barca as until the pen he was doing a superb job of shackling messi ..I think as city fans we have put a group of players on pedestals that can do no wrong kompany .zabba.Silva aguero .top top players but only human and do have the odd piss poor game or tempary dip in form.where at first we all had decided MDM was shit and we didn't give him a fair chance .he proved us all wrong though

Spot on. Hope he shares the line with Vinny next season, for what will inevitably be his swan song year with us

From what I have seen so far the Argentinian defence could do with him at the moment. Their defence looks very fragile.

Never thought early doors last season I would be agreeing with this !! Only thing is if we are going to pay circa £30million for a new centre half he will start most games regardless. But as Vinny misses large chunks of each season through suspension and injury he may get to partner the new centre half on a regular basis .not sure where natasic sits in this tho ?

Congratulations Martin. Given the importance of the match and that he had not played all tournament, I thought his contribution was outstanding today.

The great quality that he brings to a defence is calmness. This radiates to those around him. The occasion never gets the better of him.

It's a shame in a way we acquired him at the tail end of his career. He may well have been a City legend had he come to the club a few years ago.
