Martin Demichelis (continued)

Re: Martin Demichelis

I honestly thought MP had a big blind spot here, but in fairness that's a few good performances in a row. Sometimes it's good to be wrong.

Re: Martin Demichelis

A few very good consecutive performances may he keep it up.

Re: Martin Demichelis

Always shown signs that once familiar with the pace and style of PL he would be a very good player.
MDM and vinny at the back means we pass the ball back far less for hart to hoof up the field. With these two at the back they have the confidence to distribute forward passes to create space in midfield. Amongst many other defensive qualities.
Great game for MDM again today

Re: Martin Demichelis

The way we play, there is a chance we would make any defender look like a ****.

Our defenders play on the front foot and take chances. Our defenders might/do get it right 9/10 times but the 1 make them look exposed.

I like him, he much better than Lescott

Outstanding performance today. He has always been a good player, just was on occasion in the wrong place at the wrong time. Kompany has made just as many mistakes whilst he's been here but obviously is also a mountain. It's no coincidence we have been so good at the back now that MP has settled on his back two. I think the last couple of games where we have played one striker has done us worlds of good and allowed Komps and Demi to play deeper, pace is his only proper weakness really.

My bold up there, not inbetween's.

Totally agree with this. I am not saying that I want us to play 1 up top always because I don't, but it is great to see posts like this one. Formations and tactics have led to many of or backside gaffes this year. I am not excusing or trying to gloss over them. Just nice to see them looked at calmly and intelligently.

So agree also with many other posters since today's Arsenal match. I feel like I have seen good things from MDM all year. I will also admit that there have been times when I have been swearing at him like a sailor. Some of it is his lack of pace, especially when caught on the front foot as the run of play pushes quickly toward his back. At this point I can take the good with the bad because there is so much good. Sticking in constantly to win possession back and serving as a good swing fulcrum when we play out a switch when the right side is not running clean. I feel that we tend to go forward most often through the right side (Zabba and/or Navas influence usually) more often than not but Yaya likes to play that big bent ball around the upper right side back over to MDM. This works better, I feel, when Kolarov is at left back as opposed to Clichy because AK has more pace. Sometimes, though, MDM will carry the ball forward himself and he often makes a decent pass.

Not saying we have a perfect centre back suddenly but I have no problem saying that MDM has really raised it a level lately and it couldn't come at a better time. Let's hope he stays on this track through the end of the season.
