Martin Demichelis

He is my favourite player these days, he has the best footballing brain in the back 4, good on the ball reasonable pace and a committed tackler. I wear my MdM shirt with pride.

I don't normally take much interest in stats. But considering it's been widely reported and accepted that Demichelis is the slowest footballer to ever pull on a pair of boots, it's worth noting that the official stats. for yesterday's game list the City players top speed during the game as:

3rd. Fernandinho. 19.3 MPH
2nd. Navas. 19.4 MPH
1st. Demichelis. 20.2 MPH.

For the Chelsea last min winner he made up ground on Torres to almost block it, top speed and acceleration are different, but he quick enough to do his job.

The anti MD posters on here are being conned by the anti City media. Can anybody really give an example of a defender who is behind a forward heading for goal not attempting a desperate tackle? To stand by and watch him score and then say to your team mates, "I thought it best that we retain a full quota on the field for the remainder of the game" is just completely alien. Remember Vinny against Wolves 2 years ago? Journalists writing the headlines blaming MD know this, but they have seen an angle to go at which is far more pleasing to them. This will snowball to the extent that people will believe that a man with umpteen caps for Argentina, 8 years and countless medals with Bayern Munich and in the La Liga team of the year last season , really is useless (I have seen this with my own eyes - two lads next to me on tuesday were discussing how bad he is before the game and then watching every move he made for evidence to prove it). I can only hope that he ends the season , as I believe he will, with 3 medals at least.

Seconded, unfortunately people simply repeat verbatim what they read or hear in the papers and the TV. The pundits revel in the power they perceive they have in influencing public opinion. Sadly in many cases they do. The anti DM movement within blues ranks started after MOTD decided to do a very selective review of MDM against Fulham. Having actually been at the game it bore no resemblance to his overall performance.

Similarly, people seem to have quickly forgotten the outstanding performances of Nastasic last season that went largely unmentioned by the media. Contrast that with the fawning coverage of Januzaj.

Nastasic in my view is our long term centre back alongside Vinny.

Agreed, against Fulham he put in a great performance but MOTD decided to find his few mistakes and show them all together then claim what a liability he was. They could have done the same for Kompany but because it's 'cool' or whatever to think Demichellis is shit they did it for him.

I really hate to say it but MDM would never have been in that position if Kompany had not dove in. He is amazing and made a choice, a wrong one in this case and left the other cb isolated against the best player in the world who was also in on goal. He should never gave slid. Try to cut down the angle and let the keeper make the save, that's what you learn from a young age as a defender. Messi still may have scored but we would be on a full squad still and only one goal down. He almost got the ball in his defense.

In summary MDM is a good defender, but we need another Kompany, as does every club in the world.
