Oh my God, are you for real! Demichelis is a defender and that was a split second, natural and instinctive decision that made him react to challenge Messi, almost akin to pulling your hand away from a hot iron. It just happens, before your mind even realises.

Do you seriously believe, with his heart probably beating around 180 beats a minute and in the blink of an eye he can override natural reaction and not make that challenge?

If you do, and anyone else who does is utterly clueless about football.
Tackling is not akin to breathing.

He made a decision, knowing if he got it wrong he'd be off. He's chased after him and then brought him down, it was not an instinctive reaction.

Demichelis himself has even publicly questioned why he made the decision to bring him down.

You have obviously never played football
Of course, well reasoned.

I mean the player has since come out and said he made the decision to go to ground on the basis of thinking he would get the ball, not because it was a snap decision.

As well as accepting that a red card was at risk if he fouled him.

Bravo.

I really hate to say it but MDM would never have been in that position if Kompany had not dove in. He is amazing and made a choice, a wrong one in this case and left the other cb isolated against the best player in the world who was also in on goal. He should never gave slid. Try to cut down the angle and let the keeper make the save, that's what you learn from a young age as a defender. Messi still may have scored but we would be on a full squad still and only one goal down. He almost got the ball in his defense.

In summary MDM is a good defender, but we need another Kompany, as does every club in the world.

The anti MD posters on here are being conned by the anti City media. Can anybody really give an example of a defender who is behind a forward heading for goal not attempting a desperate tackle? To stand by and watch him score and then say to your team mates, "I thought it best that we retain a full quota on the field for the remainder of the game" is just completely alien. Remember Vinny against Wolves 2 years ago? Journalists writing the headlines blaming MD know this, but they have seen an angle to go at which is far more pleasing to them. This will snowball to the extent that people will believe that a man with umpteen caps for Argentina, 8 years and countless medals with Bayern Munich and in the La Liga team of the year last season , really is useless (I have seen this with my own eyes - two lads next to me on tuesday were discussing how bad he is before the game and then watching every move he made for evidence to prove it). I can only hope that he ends the season , as I believe he will, with 3 medals at least.

Good luck to you Martin.

This, all day long, well put

Really think we should bite the bullet and splash 30 odd million on a good young CB who we can get about 10 top years out of, like they did with horse gob over at the swamp

Absolutely agree. Neither Demichelis nor Nastasic are reliable at top level & none of the academy kids are near it yet.

Would be stupid to go into next season with world class players all through the team & central defender next to VK, who wouldn't be first choice in any of the other top 6 teams.

Its not going to help us this season is it ? So lets get behind those we have until the summer, and hope they can carry us through to winning trophies.

I don't normally take much interest in stats. But considering it's been widely reported and accepted that Demichelis is the slowest footballer to ever pull on a pair of boots, it's worth noting that the official stats. for yesterday's game list the City players top speed during the game as:

3rd. Fernandinho. 19.3 MPH
2nd. Navas. 19.4 MPH
1st. Demichelis. 20.2 MPH.

I'm in 328 and I could hear a few boos when his name was announced before kick off, why do these people bother turning up?

I know. Drives me nuts. Got one behind me who does it to Dzeko. By all means vent your frustration on here, but booing a Blue on match day? Perhaps they think it's gonna make them play better. Idiots

Them stats are worthless, I remember an article I think from the Daily Mail that had Barry as our 3rd fastest player in the whole squad using them stats.

-- Sun Feb 23, 2014 4:16 pm --

Just because he admitted he thought he would win the ball doesn't mean it wasn't a snap decision. It's the sort of decision you make in a split-second.
