Mascherano v Yaya

Barca's manager was saying today that they need a defensive midfielder. They sold Yaya and now they're after Mascherano. To me there's not much difference in quality. Was there any other reason they got rid of Yaya?

Yaya has a lot more about him than Mascherano.

Yaya was not prepared to sit on the bench anymore while Mascherano will sit on the bench as long as his wife is somewhere where she can get a tan. YaYa is twice the player.

They want a defensive midfielder. Toure's not a defensive midfielder. Seems simple enough.

What I do find strange is that after Busquets progressing so well they want to go in and get Mascherano, because presumably that'll mean Busquets is booted to the bench and his progression severely stunted. Unless they're going 424 as their main formation rather than their back up one, but that still seems strange.

in fairness they sold Yaya for £24m and have bid for Masch at £12m so Barca dont value him at more than half as good as Yaya

Pep has said himself that he did NOT want Yaya to leave, but agreed to as he couldn't promise a starting position every week.

Toure wanted out because he wasn't playing often enough so they let him go.
