Are the people advocating masks going forward wearing decent masks that actually protect the wearer i.e FFP2, FFP3 or above?

If not it's going to be largely pointless wearing a mask if the majority of people are not.

Mask wearing is a defence mechanism albeit a small player in restricting the spread.

People will die from covid for many years to come throughout the world like they do from influenza but in similar numbers over many years average whether you are vaccinated or not.

it is also designed to measure citizen response to both government edict or recommendation and compliance of edict and recommendation that in the main while a nuisance to some and a risk to health to some to actually wear them for even a short period of time at different times is in the main acceptable to comply with by most as opposed to democratic governments at least demanding you shoot your neighbour with a rifle in the big toe which much fewer would comply with.

many people will wear them irrespective of the actual level of community transmission and the link between hospital cases and death after the bulk of the community have been vaccinated.
i get all that, but you're ignoring my point that if the government goes back to mandatory mask wearing in places we still have to for the next 13 days then the vaccination programme will have failed, because if the NHS is once again overwhelmed and people are getting seriously ill and sadly dying then the vaccine is patently not doing what it is supposed to do in the % its meant to do.

I think if enough people just show a bit of common courtesy and common sense, wearing a mask in really confined spaces, we can certainly avoid a worst case in Autumn and Winter, when the NHS are predicting a really bad flu season.

I've said before that I have a close doc friend who is literally in charge at the MRI.

His wards are back to full, was even surprised when he said the average age of the person getting ill now with it is 58.

would be interested in the breakdown of who is vaccinated in this group
only saying that in my workplace of around 90 people i know at least 4 50yr plus people who haven't had/refused to take the vaccine, 3 of those are not the healthiest shall we say

Ah yes I thought you were only looking at mask wearing on its own silly me.

Boris taking a punt on this one but that's what leaders have to do and your lockdowns have been a huge drag on the lives of too many now for too long , its time to move on.

I’m obviously missing something.

young people want to go out , drink and party .. they shouldn’t be labelled as ‘desperate twats’ because after a year and a half of restrictions they want to go out again.

erm I want to go out again too, and when I was a teenager Napoleon was a lad

I won’t unless the institution requires it.
Who wants to sit in a theatre for 3 hours with a mask on?
In pubs and restaurants it has been a waste of time anyway. Wear it for ten seconds to get to your table where you sit for hours. Pointless theatre.

i did think it would have been maintained for public transport to be honest.

This pretty much sums it up for me, surely to god (other deities are available) common sense/common decency should dictate that you continue to wear a mask in crowded areas where there is a benefit to all, public transport and crowded shops are obvious examples.

Likewise common sense would suggest wearing a mask for a few seconds to get from a door to a pub table is almost completely pointless, as it is when popping into a small shop with no one else in there other than the person behind the big plastic shield at the counter.

The government are, depending on your political views perhaps, either crediting the general populace with the intelligence and social responsibility to make an informed decision for the common good (risky choice given most people are twats) or passing the responsibility buck on to them.

Given the bleating of many (myself included) about us living in a nanny state where you're told what to do at many levels, the decision to empower us in this way would seem a step in the right direction. However, as I said above, most people are twats and so it's all likely to end in tears.

I also said it wasn't just young people but obviously you didn't comprehend what I posted.

'You think it is only teens and 20yo's lol'

Just to reiterate it for you.

Desperate twats, desperate to get out and get pissed up the town, a few more months we'd all be vaccinated and then maybe a once a year top up and it will be like living with the flu but nope, open everything up asap, quick, hurry, hurry, use the young ones to get the herd immunity they desperately wanted to achieve via Cheltenham etc.

If they are opening everything up, will self-isolation become a thing of the past?

Will you be able to just go to work even if you know you are positive?

Will people even test in a month's time?
I hate to break this to you but pubs have been back open for months mate

Nail on the head. See Brexit for the last occasion when the government (like them or loathe them) should have been doing what was best for the country but instead decided to pass the buck to their ill-informed population.

of course he is, but its a calculated risk with economies teetering on brinks
