Massive Rebuild Next Summer - Rate Our Side

we've never, with the exception of the Viking, bought the perceived best available, rather we've bought the very best of potential. Aguero, Silva, KDB, Fernandinho, Rodri, Bernado, Vinny, Yaya the list goes on. Good players without a doubt, but none were at the very top level when we bought them. Buying that sort of player allows you to build a team without the superstar ego that the likes of Bellingham, Mbappe, Vinicius Jr bring with them. Thats what we were superb at for a decade and thats what we haven't done for a couple of years now.

Agree, I'd say we were previously buying the best players who weren't already at an elite club. This would include 'almost elite' clubs like Atletico and Dortmund. Players ready to step up.

Feels like we're buying from a bit below that level now and we're hoping they step up, in time.

Doesn't mean it's bad, just a bit more risky in terms of ability, but less of a risk in terms of £s perhaps.

Hopefully we'll still go for some of those 'almost certs' when the time comes. They cost a lot obviously, so some signings have to be cheaper too.

I would say that the likes of Aguero, Silva, KDB, Fernandinho, Rodri, Bernardo, Vinny, Yaya were far better than the buys of recent previous windows.

thats exactly what I said...... but they weren't statement signings, at least not how I'd define a statement signing

Watching Arsenal v Real Madrid on the back of the Derby demonstrated the decline in City's physical intensity. Tonight's game just reminded me of how complacent we were in the Summer.

It's a miracle we are 6th and in the semi-final of the FA Cup given that we have KDB, Gundogan and Bernardo plodding in midfield. Bernardo has endless stamina but he is slow. Savinho, Marmoush and Haaland are top quality forwards but I think we need an attacking midfielder and a right back. It's too risky to rely on the development of Echeverri next season. I thought he might get some game time this season but now it doesn't look like he will. I think Foden will come good again in front of Rodri. Other people will claim that we need to be a lot more active than that but I don't think so. I would like to see City buy a proven midfielder like Gibbs-White or Morgan Rogers but both would be very expensive and we'd probably have to get in the CL to buy a player like that.

I think rebuild will take 2-3 seasons at least, even longer and considering it is Viana now and Pep soon leaving, I have no clue the direction in which it will go.
We are back at 2008 levels and the team with current players we have been buying for the last couple of seasons, and the sheer number of players we were letting leave (all way better than those that were in) doesn't fill me with hope we'll be competing for the very top like the previous seven seasons.

In 2008 we finished 9th. This season we are 6th and that's without Rodri. We also sold Alvarez and his replacement in waiting broke his leg before a ball was kicked in anger. Then Foden's form collapsed and central defenders went down like clockwork. We are still without Stones, Akanji and Ake.

We brought players in in January. I think Khusanov, Reis and Marmoush look good but the jury is out on Nico. I haven't seen him do anything yet.

I think we need a right back and attacking midfielder as a minimum.

S: (Keep no matter what): Pep, Haaland, , Rodrigo, Gvardiol, Foden
A: (World class, extremely reluctant to sell): Khusanov, Marmoush, Dias, Ederson,
B: (P/L Class great player - prefer very much not to sell): Savinho, Silva, Akanji, Doku, Ortega, Gonzales,
C: (P/L Good, but consider offers): , McAtee, Nunes, Lewis
D: (P/L Average or maybe a bit worse, hoping to sell): , Grealish, Kovacic, Carson,
E: (Sub-adequate, past their prime or otherwise a detriment possibly due to history of injury, sell or offer on loan): Gundogan, KDB,
F: (Sell, sell, sell): Phillips, Walker,
X: (Unknown - new/fringe players whom you've not watched enough to form an opinion): Perrone, O'Reilly, Bobb, Echeverri, Wilson-Esbrand, Reis

I’d add another section -
I: (You have a year to prove your fitness- we suggest you retire from International duty otherwise your contract will be left to run down and you won’t be offered another one - we also need to buy their replacements now and bed them in) - Stones, Ake
International duty is about all Stones seems to be available for these days cant see him hanging around much longer. This thread is somewhat depressing as when you look at it hard the rebuild is quite substantial even at the conservative end of what is needed. Personally I would limit things to a max of 4 in and 5 out during the summer. This will need 2 or 3 windows to sort out. The emphasis should be on signing elite players were possible rather than spending 50 or 60 million for the sake of it on unproven talent. This is easier said than done of course and ride could get very bumpy.

Scary thing is no secion of the side is sorted.
Keeper - likely Eddie leaves.
Defence - no right back, will JG continue at left back and the back up Centre backs are unproven or never fit.
Midfield - issues obvious.
Attack - EBH aside we have lots of promise but nobody premier league proven.

Looks 2/3 year job - where do Viana and Pep start?

You can't reboot the squad in a summer. There is too much rot so like it or not, we will be keeping some of the criminals we have atm until at least next year.
Nunes, Silva, Kov (?) for sure. You'll be prying them out of Peps cold, dead hands.

I could see Gundo stinking out the midfield for another year when we need “control” of the game.

The so-called rebuild and the inns and outs will not be an overnight thing, 2 or 3 more transfer windows and we will still need more English players that will not be cheap if City are after them. Walker Stones Phillips Carson are 100% gone, So we will need 4 new English players straight away, then there is Grealish ?

The rebuild has started and the new players will be after the World Cup, Also City could have 10 players leaving or going on loan

The truth is that my list of players here, Stefan, Dias, Khusanov, Reis, Bobb, Foden, Echeverri, Nico, Rodri, Haaland, Marmoush, are for next season's squad and beyond, the rest could be leavers and bench squad players

So, 10 new players have to come in the transfer window

Replace the word 'far' with 'infinitely' and you're spot on!
Football is a very simple game, I personally think the coaching side is vastly overrated, man management is the main thing but at the end of the day the trophies are won by clubs with the best players.

Ederson Rodri Haaland Dias Gvardiol Ake O'Reilly Gonzalez Savinho Marmoush Bobb Khusanov Reis Echeverri Mukasa & Akanji I definitely want to stay.

Give Rico, McAtee and Jack a stay of execution, mainly because they are English and fill the spots in the squad.

The rest I wouldn't care less if they left some of them I'd drive to their new clubs myself. And no, I've not forgotten Foden. If he cant show a bit of hunger energy and desire in a derby when the whole stadiums calling your mum a slag then he's finished.

We need quality in the 8, 10 and full back positions. Top top quality no Txiki specials.
