Match discussion - Liverpool (A) - Sunday 12 Oct k.o. 16:45

No composure and very little skill, seems very hit and hope, we need to learn to take control of games, and toughen up, need a bully or 2.
Got away with that in the end, take the 3 points and move on.
Agree, thought we'd gained some strength in midfield when Alexandri moved there, so disappointed to see her go, why?

Pundits on Sky absolutely devastated that City won. Saying Liverpool didn't deserve to lose until the host reminded them that was Liverpool's second shot on goal at the end and then they changed their tune.

Come on Sky, get some decent pundits on
They seem to think they are commenting on a men’s game, where the whole broadcast perspective has to apparently be viewed through a liverpool lens. Not that I agree with it for the men’s, but for the women it’s even more questionable, as their team are a mid-table irrelevance in the women’s game. At best.

Very fortunate the lineswoman was up to the job - awful from Layzel to play a terrible inside pass that was easy to read, then putting Alex in a poor position to just swipe at it.

Nothing against how well Laura has played in the last few games but this is why you bring a top international in, one who is a serial winner with Bayern - great assist for the winner and she also allows Yui to be more effective further up.

Jade Rose & Iman looking better with each game - I still think we have to find our best system particularly in midfield & also with Viv. I also think left back is an area they need to improve next.
Can't agree that Laura has played well recently, one player, who comes on who gets caught on the ball and increases the pressure on us without adding a great workload. Introduce Syd ahead of her and with a view to the future

Thing is, they’ll see it as a sort of interview to get on to the men’s commentary team and, when viewed though that lens, they did themselves no harm, whatsoever…

Our game management in those last few minutes was shocking. Amateurish.
They’ll have been watching the men against Arsenal, Monaco and Brighton this season, along with Brentford, Feyenoord, Brighton (again), the rags, PSG, Madrid and Forest last season.
The major difference is, of course, the Women won today!

To a certain extent you are probably right. They probably did think they would get the three points whatever. I personally think it is more poor decision making and slow play that causes us problems. That and our inability to keep shots down at times.
A new manager, a few new players and some injuries we are just finding out feet. Hopefully as the season progresses we will be more in tune with each other.
I agree, but the trouble is the womens League is such a short league, a couple bad results and you're out of it.

See arsenal, who won't be winning it this season.

I wasn't able to watch today (waiting for the highlights), but followed online, seemed a struggle, I wasn't shocked that we conceded from their first shot having missed chances.

Can't see Taylor lasting much longer there, I doubt they will be as patient as we were, but they don't look to have a great side, which might be a lack of ambition from them as a club.

Hope that's not the dreaded ACL for her.
Who was this about ? I assume whoever it was came back on as there were no first half subs ?

Well done in the end ladies, deserved winners.
Scouse back six at times and they were happy to low block with just Endeby up top left to press our centre halfs. Rose played well today I thought and has a bit of pace too, won a few foot races where she started off behind the attacker. LBB mom again and is getting better from an extended run in the side. I do think we need greater physicality with Lohman against the likes of Chelsea and United if we already have Yui in there. (I noted the shoulder barge to send LBB flying last week and applauded by the commentators as strong play was repeated by Millie Bright today and got a yellow card, strangely this week the comms team thought it was deserved?-boy do they piss me off). As if licking scouse arse throughout wasn't bad enough, I thought they were dreadful yet Izzy and co-comms failed to notice they barely crossed the half way line first half.

So wasteful in front of goal again. Could easily have been 4 up at half time but both Bunny and Miedema left their shooting boots at home. Then of course we conceded from.their only shot on target a header from a decent ball in which Casperji didn't see the danger of Kovacs on her blind side. Good response though and we went up in quality and tempo from that point until the end. 2 good finishes from Beney and Fujino San.

We lost our composure on the ball when LBB went off and didn't game manage very well in the last stages when they threw an extra forward on. Got out of jail with the offside but I wasn't convinced it was a free kick from a clear dive by their Japenese midfielder Fuka totally exaggerating a minimal contact by Beney.

Big shout out to the fantastic away support today. Lots travelled to Anfield. Very loud and proud and the volume when we scored the second was distinctly noticeable.

As for Sky and the two pundits Stoney and some ex-arse player, aren't they all?My condolences to whoever passed away and fuck right off!

I was there, yesterday, but had the worst seats I've ever had at a game so can offer nothing to the discussion. Corner flag at pitch level with six inches of legroom...no!

I muted them for the second half. The number of times they bigged up Liverpool when they strung two passes together and completely ignored our creativity.

I agree about LBB , she is very tidy and I'm enjoying watching her improve . We need a bit of heft in midfield though and I hope Clinton will provide it . The biggest problem is left back , Leila was bullied backwards all afternoon and needs a rest . She is so exposed without Lauren tracking back . I can see why Fujino was put out there as she is also relentless in her defensive workrate but we lost something on the right . As soon as Fujino switched right our left was so exposed .

On the plus side Greenwood and Rose looked solid, Yui is superlative and Beney is mischievous . A good victory .

I don’t see much of the women’s football, but having watched that game yesterday I thought City looked a lot quicker in transition and more direct than under Taylor. A well deserved win, without Lauren Hemp. And they have certainly found a centre half in Jade Rose, genuine pace.

Yeah. She had a fantastic season last but one, but last season was a bit lacklustre. A new environment has clearly worked for her. She must be the only player in the WSL who has scored twice in the Rag net and redeemed herself today.

I think we have to accept that a given player can be a genuinely good footballer, whose skills can be brought out in one team but not another so much, and in one kind of set-up and not another. This is obviously true for both the women's and the men's game.

I think we got away with one there. Thankfully Bonner put the ball in the net and the lineswoman did the rest. There were 2 Liverpool players in the vicinity who could have scored legally though. Layzell (I think) was the only player who reacted to the danger.

Talking of Sky's coverage (above), did anybody else clock that as soon as the ball went into the net they changed the score to 2-2, but they took an absolute age to register Beney's equaliser? It was as if they were hoping for an offside to be given.

Excellent interchange beween Syd and Aoba for the winner.

My final point on this game is this:

I love Yui. If you're reading this post, you probably love Yui too. But when it's 2-1 with 4 minutes to go please TAKE IT TO THE CORNER FLAG!!!! instead of playing a low-percentage ball to Bunny when she's outnumbered by 2 defenders.

Exactly ...

I was at the Napoli Vs Genoa game a week ago and KDB did exactly that . Corner flag all day long ...
