Match of the Day - 2015/16

With all the tech in the world it sometimes wouldn't help the big calls

For me I thought the penalty for Leicster was just that. A penalty. It's a red as well. It's from behind, he does take the ball but he takes Vardys leg first and it's not a clean tackle. Last man so he has to go if it's a foul.

2nd pen shout wasn't and again the correct decision. This time Vardy leaves his legs in and is looking for it. He could stay on his feet there. That really winds me up that. It's cute and clever but it's also cheating.

Most people would have those calls the other way around so I'm in the minority, but even video wouldn't always help
One area where the laws need changing, technology or not. Let's assume the first one is a penalty. The centre half has then been sent off for 'denying a goal-scoring opportunity'. Surely Leicester STILL have a goal scoring opportunity as they've got a penalty. In my world, it would be a red outside the area and not a red inside the area.

I agree with you there but where does it not become a goal scoring opportunity? A kick from the edge of the area is difficult to score from but 22-27 yards out is a great opportunity if you have a specialist in the team. So we would have to say within the penalty area. If it's outside then it's a sending off but no penalty, is that fair?

As for my question about tackling from behind, this just doesn't exist, you can tackle from any direction as long as it doesn't meet any of the criteria for a foul.

Can they not have a referee on the panel or at least refer to one on the laws of the game? Otherwise kids playing the game will be told the wrong thing time and time again by these presenters and panellists.

Never mind Francis getting or not getting the ball, it was outside the box.

Penultimate game of the season sees Villa v Newcastle. Villa fans all expecting mucho relegation piss taking from the Barcodes following events five or six years ago when Villa were less than sympathetic to Newcastle's plight. The banner "Who's your next Messiah, Ant or Dec?" being shown across the globe. But will Newcastle be joining them? And can you see either getting back in a short time.

Interesting....Very Interesting!

Completely agree with you. I streamed the Leicester game and the commentator (it was an American stream) was goin mental for the rest of the game how the wrong decision was made.. for me he's tackled him from behind and despite touching the ball hes gone through the man. Therefore for me it's a pen and a red. Mahrez played shit all game I don't know why they let him take it (though it ultimately helped us so don't mind too much).

The 2nd one is also a dive and something Vardy is known for, can be a cheating **** a lot of the time.

Except this is mentioned precisely nowhere in the laws.
Isn't the actual wording something about denying a clear goalscoring opportunity? Now, most times, if the defender is the last man, he will probably be denying a goal scoring opportunity, but not definitely. If the foul is committed out on the touchline, and there's another defender chasing back through the middle, he might well get back into a covering position.
