New refs have to learn what? Are the laws of the game different in the PL? Or do you mean they have to learn who to favour?It was his 4th PL game, and he was a late replacement for the scheduled ref. New refs have to learn, and this might do for him.

Why should the amount of money going on the game matter? It's not as though big betting companies spend millions to advertise on Sky or Talkshite or team shirts is it? Oh it is. Sooner or later, new refs need to be put on the PL games. Sometimes they screw up. In this case, for whatever reason, Scott was dreadful.
I therefore fully expect him next time we play a scuffleball mob, maybe Wednesday week.
