Match of the Day - 2015/16

Just take a look back to the Holland/Italy match at Euro 2008, when Panucci was behind the net.

That's the incident I immediately remembered, surprised there's confusion.

The main confusion comes from the fact that people on the BBC who get paid thousands of pounds per week, don't bother to tell people the rules. They are too lazy and incompetent to do their jobs and look up the rules.

Our Michael Owen! I nearly fell asleep watching him. Cheer up fella, for fuck's sake. You're playing for God's own club, earning a shit load of cash and have just scored a hat trick.

Give the lad a break .

The way the media in general, and the bbc specifically portrayed the teenager as some sort of cruel malignant greedy young footballer for daring to leave Klanfield is bound to make him wary and a little introvert when they suddenly have to suck his cock after scoring a hat trick in a premier league game.
Do you think Sterling didn,t notice the disgraceful manner in which he was portrayed in the press all summer?
Do you not think he might take the view..i,ll play this down, dont want to appear cocky or arrogant or say anything which could be misconstrued by the watching millions.
Sterling was professional and cool. i like that.
rooney is all smiles after scoring his second league goal of the season,Sterling smashes three in one game and remains cool when questioned by those who tried to turn every football fan in the country aginst him.Well played lad.

And no need for the your earning shit loads of cash comment either.they all earn big money and our owner earns more than most- you dont see him skipping down the street singing the world is great..he is cool, reserved professional and in the background.Gloat when you have won the title, not when the media have to eat humble pie and acknowledge your class in a routine premiership game.

If you want to see how much Sterling is enjoying being at City, check out the official web site recording of his first day at the club, the big smiles, the warmth, the affection shines through..in a friendly supportive enviroment, as opposed to being questioned by hypocrites in front of watching millions.

Well played Raheem Sterling.

Well played Raheem Sterling.

Sterling's happiness was plain for all to see at the end of the game. Pellegrini had just said something to him after the final whistle and Sterling had a big shit eating grin on his cherub like face. He was delighted with his hat trick and rightly so, I couldn't give a fuck if he's taking a Pellegrini like approach to his interviews for TV.

Was just told -

If a striker is over the goal line he's deemed to be off the pitch and not in play, however when a defender is over his own goal line he's still in play and deemed on the goal line.

Sounds b@llocks to me - is it?

The striker is not interfering with play in that instance, would be more accurate

top post. What he had to put up with in the summer was borderline illegal from the press.

May I offer my apologies for my post, which has upset/annoyed a couple of posters on here. Looking back, I could have worded it somewhat better than I did. I was just disappointed with the way the lad came across, but I hadn't taken his treatment in th summer into account.

The debate about him being off the pitch is irrelevant anyway, because he was on the pitch when Bony passed to Sterling.

Various points:
A attacker is only flagged for offside when in an offside position and active or interfering etc. A defender is ALWAYS considered active.
It doesn't matter whether he's on the ground injured, or tying his bootlace or talking to the crowd, he can still be playing an opponent onside. - See SWP's goal at QPR in the League Cup about 12 years ago.
As for Vardy - the debate isn't really about whether he should play for England; it's about whether he should be allowed to play for England while contracted to a relatively unsuccessful club without a trophy-winning history. There would be no debate if he played for the rags, Arse or Dippers.
