Looks like Mark Lawrenson is finally retiring from MOTD and Football Focus. It will be interesting to see who replaces him. Will it be the continuation of the old Red Top guard or will there be a sea change to reflect the City domination of the past decade? Personally I would be content if it was neither, the BBC is a publicly funded broadcaster and its coverage should (and it often doesn’t) be unbiased.

Not wanting to stick up for Shearer but if you've spent 20+ years as a professional athlete at the absolute top of the game the moment you stop, the weight is going to pile on even if you eat and exercise sensibly. There's a never ending list of football players who ballooned after retiring.
