Match programmes

I collect pre-war football annuals so don't know much about programmes but pr

If I were you I'd Google football programme forums, join one and ask your question. No idea what drives the value of programmes....I have a programme in decent condition for the famous 1953 Blackpool cup final signed personally by Stanley Matthews and Stan Mortensen which you would think would be worth a bob or two but I paid £33 for. Good luck- hope you have a gem in the collection.
You'll be surprised what drives the value of programmes..... from the 70's onwards most programmes can be picked up between 1 and 3 pounds (sorry dont have a pound sign on my keyboard!)
One exception to this is (I think) City v Derby 1976 / 77.
The programme has an advert for the Sex Pistols tour which included a gig at the Electric Circus in Collyhurst. The programme is highly sought after by Pistols aficionados so the value is very high.
The tour was also advertised in other clubs programmes in the towns / cities where the band were due to play and a similar pattern exits there too.

Where and what is this? Can't recall Collyhurst having as much as a 15w bulb.

The Cup Winners Cup Final against Gornik in 1970 (if in top condition, not water damaged) is probably the most valuable if the collection only dates back to the 50s. The less valuable but interesting ones will be important matches such as FA & League Cup finals, Newcastle away when we clinched the title in '68, some less common European aways, the 6-1 at the swamp etc.

Other than that maybe programmes from postponed games that were printed but not officially issued, they can be quite sought after.

I’ve got a programme for the Gornik game. How much can they go for?

I know this is a different point, but some time in the next few years you suspect the club will stop printing programmes & say it's all on your phone/ app. (The programmes this season are again flimsier than last). Whereupon all printed programmes from the past will become more valuable / collector's items ?

Corner of Collyhurst Street and Teignmouth Street just off Rochdale Road.
Originally the Palace Cinema and became Bernard Manning's Top Hat Club before being a bingo hall and then the Electric Circus.
Pulled down in 79 and now a small row of houses are on the site.

Here's my copy which I managed to keep dry by tucking it in my jacket during the deluge. The rest of me got drenched though.

The main reason they're so scarce is that some blokes pitched up with fairly small quantities of programmes and were immediately surrounded by City fans like me wanting multiple copies for mates back home. These blokes were taking the equivalent of 2/- (10p) for each programme. This sounds dirt cheap now but it was twice the price of a City home programme at the time. They kept going back inside and bringing out limited quantities at irregular intervals. With demand being so high they knew they were on to a good thing.

Then a couple of City fans noticed that the cover had the word gratis on it and knew the programme sellers were ripping off the fans by charging for programmes that were meant to be distributed free of charge. Some fans then tipped up one bloke and pinched all his programmes upon which he and his mates retreated back inside and never came out with any more.

If anybody's interested I can scan and post the rest of the pages.

Ah, we never dared get off the bus as it went on to Cannon Street.
