Hmmmm. Interesting game, they are good esp their midfield. Happy with 0-0. We will improve 2nd half.

I thought they were good at our place and deserved to win. Think we have had one injury too many in midfield and it’s showing tonight.

What a player Eric is, practically defending on his own.

The shape is shit. Sterling doesn't work there, no second press, Mahrez crap but Leroy is the worst player on the pitch.

Sacrifice Mahrez, stiffen up the midfield and get Foden on.

We are even making Silva look ordinary by not getting close enough to him.

Just like the first game they are closing the spaces down, this is stopping our usual passing game, coupled with the imbalance with Mahrez and Raheem. Zinchenko is poor positonally and it’s leaving space at the back that they are exploiting. Pep needs to make an early change the obvious one is to take Mahrez off with Delph or Phil on

We play a lot of dross domestically and the step up to playing teams as good as Lyon catches us out. They've been the better side over three halves and exposed a number of our weaknesses in both games.

We’re pretty fortunate not to be trailing at the break, but you’ve really got to acknowledge that they’re a very good side. Shades of Jardim’s Monaco or Pellegrini’s Malaga.

They’re winning the midfield battle and our wingers are too narrow to open the space inside - probably because they fear the counterattack. Unfortunately, we haven’t got a lot of options to change things.

I completely understand why Pep didn’t start Foden. He’d be easily outmuscled and eased off the ball. Delph could come on, but I don’t expect that it would improve us enormously.

This might just be a game where we’re going to have to dig in and grind out a result.
