Can someone explain this Champions Cup malarky? the format is group stages, with W. D and L, but Real and Inter went into extra time last night after a stalemate, and then to penalties, that went 2-3 Inter.

And on top of this, the penalty goals are actually tallied in the GF and GA columns. Bonkers?

.The tournament will have two groups of four: a "Group A" and a "Group B". The groups will be played as a round-robin, All eight teams will be divided into 2 groups and will play three matches before winners of Group A and B play in finals Sun Life Stadium on August 4.

The team placing will be based on (a) points earned in the first two matches (3 points for a win, 2 for a win by penalty shootout, 1 for a penalty kick loss, 0 for a regulation loss), (b) head-to-head result, (c) goal differential, (d) goals scored.
