Overall that was a good half. Newcastle are no pushovers and apart from a few chances, we kept them fairly quiet. We could have scored one or two more but they weren’t the clearest of chances based on their stout defending, so no real complaints there.
Every player is playing fairly well, and some could do even better, which is what you want going in to the second half. Phil has been absolutely mercurial (his goal was a thing of strength and beauty) and Rodri has been his usual rock in the midfield.
Pep will make a few tweaks, Kev will no doubt be nearing full calibration, and we will hopefully go up a gear in the second half as Newcastle tire after their cup final exertions.
Here’s hoping this proves prophetic.
