Two separate issues. What would have happened if another matter. You're still not getting it. Once we conceded after four minutes we went from needing two goals without reply to win the tie to needing three. That's if they didn't score again. Scoring twice without reply takes us into extra time and if it stays that way penalties. Their heads dropped after four minutes because a really tough task became impossible. As it proved. Madrid schooled us all.over the pitch and even if we had scored THREE they would have simply upped the tempo and scored more.
I'm talking about fact - at 4-2 down, a team NEEDS two goals. You've said yourself, that would have led to the lottery of penalties.
You'd be correct if the away goals rule was still in place, but it isn't.
Turn it around, if it makes it easier for you to grasp - say we'd gone there with a 2-1 lead, would you have been saying that we'd go through as long as we didn't concede twice? No - again, penalties.
This bollocks attitude about needing to win by more than they did in the first leg is just unnecessarily defeatist. I wonder whether the players also had this fragile mindset?
Everybody on here except you can see this - I'm not replying again, but somehow think you will...
