Mateo Kovacic

Don’t you think, Dom, that with a back 4 behind him, to counter his lack of pace, Stones could eventually adapt well to the role?

Personally, no. The differences between what Stones does and what we need from our defensive midfielder is night and day IMO. The positions in which you get the ball, the pressure on you, the level of passing needed and the ability to get forwards - Stones just doesn't have it, nor do any of our CB's.

Maybe at a lower level or in a more basic manager's system, but not here.

I don't think Pep's ever made that move before either. He's moved midfielders backwards, and made fullbacks go into central positions, but never moved a CB further up the pitch.

Not even convinced Madrid sell to be honest. They need depth and Modric is getting on a bit. If they are open to sell, Perez will fleece us big time as we are desperate
i dunno, they tend to sell if players want to leave. They're also interested in milinkovic savic + pogba if you believe the press.

I think kovacic would jump at the chance to join us to be honest

No mate he's release clause is around £44million, that's one of the good or bad thing about Spanish transfers you pay the clause depending on the situation.

Release clause is now 300m i think. we will have to pay around 55-60m no doubt

Can't believe some are slagging him off because he doesn't start for the 3x reigning champions of Europe or the World Cup finalists due to his competition being Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, and Ivan Rakitic. I mean for fucks sake.

think we'll move to get this done quite quickly if at all possible.

how about 50 million plus add ons?

Jeez!! Talk about a panic buy.

I think they’d take that for what is, in truth, one of their reserves. Which is basically where my problem lies.

If you look though his entire club career to date, he’s missed a hell of a lot of games through injury, and can’t get a sniff of a game for either club or country at the moment.

I wouldn’t be averse to taking him on loan, with an option to buy next season, if they were agreeable, but to spend £50 mill on an injury prone reserve who is basically still unproven at top level is madness.

The least I would expect when buying someone for that kind of money is that they were a regular in the first team of the selling club

Don't think madrid woukd want to sell.

Will be more expensive than jorginho

Is still at the world cup, so it will be a late transfer . Jorginho would have been on the pre season already.

However , u spin it...poor planning by city ..all last moment

Yeah its pretty obvious. DM is a position on the pitch. Regista is a role that a DM can play.
Not all can deliver the playmaking qualities which is the main focus of the Regista role, example being Fern.
Conversely not all can deliver the defensive security which Fern in this role has been able to provide City.
Its a case of risk and reward I suppose.
Having a deep lying playing maker in this role would theoretically bring reward with allowing City to break a manic high line press more comfortably such as the one Liverpools tend to deploy against us and recycle, retain and make swift transitions from deep.
However, the risk is that Jorghino's lack of pace and mobility would affect are team shape with either one of the fullbacks or central defenders being pulled out of their positions to cover which ever player has broken free from Jorghinio or he has been unable to track a player effectively.

Your right. Would Fern get into their side ahead of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, and Ivan Rakitic.
As much as I love the guy, arguably not.

Kovacic played a fair bit last year, zidane really rated him, as do real Madrid fans. He isn't at all unproven, he's won 3 champions league's in 3 years and was inter Milan's best player before that.

He doesn't play for croatia because he dislocated his shoulder against Iceland.

He's as much a reserve as Gundogan is, but younger. How much do you think Gundogan is worth?

Poor planning....last moment???...City might have been working on the alternative for weeks. Do you have an inside track on what's going on at the club.

How many of those CL finals did he actually play a meaningful part in?

Zinchenko won a league title with us last year, what does that prove?

Gundogan didn’t cost cost £50 mill plus, we got him on the cheap due to his injury record, that’s why he’s here. If you think Barca are gonna pay us anywhere near that then, I’m sorry, you’re wrong.

You keep repeating this. You are still missing the point. You are saying that some players are DMs and some aren't. If they play in the six position they are DMs regardless of the role given to them or their ability to play said role.

None of us have an inside track ! As per The times we only got in touch with Kovacic's entourage last week...as a possible replacement after they may have got a sniff that they would screwed over by Napoli. Definately not weeks !

We are all city fans , and have a wonderful setup....but too many of these transfers where we supposedly pull out at the last moment.

It has worked out in the case of mahrez , where we got a good fee....95m was stupid fees in Jan. Hope it works out now
