I'm beginning to think that most of the players we buy are ill suited to other teams in the PL or at least will not be the player Pep would have seen in them.

OK Mr Phillips seems not to have the ability to change his style to match our needs but conversely will be ideal for most other PL teams who simply want his Leeds type game.
Phillips was always a weird signing. He was a player that was brought into England to do a job that they didn't have anyone else to do, and he did quite well at it. Initially it looked like he was available for something like 30 million, which would be worth the risk, but we ended up having to pay 45m for a relegated player. And I don't want to get snobby, but it's rare for someone in a relegated team to be individually good enough to play for the champions. Maybe if they're a kid, but he wasn't especially young. And even if you just looked at his injury record, it didn't make a lot of sense. Managed 23 games in all competitions the season before we bought him, and 30 the season before that. Maybe he'll still come good, but at the moment, he reminds me a bit of the Rodwell signing, in that all of the clues were there before we signed him.

You made me wonder if Ric or any mods can tell who has blocked who and whether there's a table of posters who are blocked? I wonder who would top that table?

:)
Bet there’s loads of soft cunts who have blocked me. Don’t know what they’re missing!! :-)

Phillips wasn't playing for Leeds when they were relegated iirc.

Leeds weren't relegated til this summer ?

I wonder if we are playing games here to bring Palace to the table? City would be in talks with Mendes for a while now with Cancelo, Bernardo and Walker to sort out their futures. Surely we would know roughly what it would take to buy Nunes from wolves?

Or we are chancing our arm to get players on the cheap?

Value currently does not exist in the premier league. Player valuations do not match their ability.

Strange we move from one to the next to the next to the next. Unless this method puts the clubs against each other to see who blinks first?

Interesting nonetheless.
