Matheus Nunes

I think it's a little bit harsh to say we were reactive in a bad sense. Just because I do not believe it is by choice in any way. We signed one of our primary targets in Gvardiol for a good fee. Our other primary target in Belligham chose to bring his talents (which he has plenty of ffs) to Madrid. Can't really blame the lad. Thus, moving on to negotiations with next primary target in Rice. I assume he preferred the surefire role at Arsenal and the ability to stay in London. Fine. Then we moved to Paqueta which didn't work for obvious reasons. And now Nunes has popped up. Quite late yes but we're talking deals valued at hundreds of millions of dollars. I'm sure we just want to do our due-diligence and not be reactive by just putting pen to paper on the next bloke available.

We gave some of our club legends time to make the right decision and get the moves they want, meanwhile we were planning our moves no doubt. Yes this was a bit frustrating but the lads earned the time in my opinion. Once Mahrez confirmed his departure we brought in Doku shortly after, same with Gundo and Kovacic. This stuff surely goes a long way in the eyes of players looking to sign with City down the road.

We also managed to secure the signature of Bernardo Silva, which may not have happened if we signed a big midfielder. He may have wanted the security of more minutes. Also giving us reason to play it slow. No way to know this; maybe City had a better idea that Bernardo would stay than the public (shocker).

Once the window closes in the next couple days I think we'll look back and think it was a success. Assuming one more lad comes in. We moved out aging players for decent fees and brought in some real talent. If you told me 6 months ago that we wouldn't sign Jude then I'd have said no way will this be a good window, but I think we've been smart with the hand we were dealt.

I completely agree and I think it’s needs pointing out that our club rarely get it wrong in the transfer window. I’d argue we’re one of, if not the, best run clubs in the world.

The club has set such high standards that a good window like this feels somewhat off.

As others have pointed out, the Gvardiol and Kovacic deals typify the approach City take in the market. They were identified early and brought to the club for decent fees.

The midfielder search just seems at odds with this approach. We’ve gone from Bellingham to Rice to Paqueta, three completely different types of player all for fees at the top end of what we usually pay.

I remember when we wanted a Vinny replacement we looked a Koulibaly. It didn’t materialise so we got Dias, another strong commanding CB. We wanted a DM who could control the game in Jorginho, he didn’t come so we got Rodri. This current midfielder search seems a bit more erratic than that.

I completely disagree about Bernardo though. The guy is world class and would start for us no matter who we brought in. Pep loves him as well.

As suggested a few pages back, I think this is done. However, why would we finalise a deal and register him when he still has a suspension to complete. They play tonight, makes sense for him to miss the game and complete his two game ban. The thinking could be to get him over tonight while they play their home game for him to have a medical tomorrow, then register him Thursday, have him on the bench Saturday.
red card for violent conduct ? if not one 1 game missed which he served at weekend not playing tonight because not training

From a Wolves perspective it appears this lad is very good, but very inconsistent and plenty still to learn. It also seems he could be one of the best midfielders in the world if that all clicks.
If they achieve 15m profit for a seasons football, and that money is reinvested immediately, then i think the deal suits all parties.

Doyle (sale) and McAtee (loan) would be an excellent start for them.

I think the deal gets done, but im not gonna lose sleep if it doesnt.

Oh I agree. More so that with a smaller squad he'd play even more. Not that he wouldn't be in the best XI, but he'd get more time in other matches as well.

They were spot on for ages with the Gvardiol deal though? Price, timeline etc?
nope. imminent announcement and a medical in barcelona in june or early july. purple panel claimed the deal was done all the time, while on the other hand a croatian journalist who had the exclusive photos and info wrote that it was very, very bumpy with pep calling joško after the romano incident.

so the result was good for purple panel but some wrong info as gvardiol wasn’t announced until august 5. not saying they’re clueless but they did post wrong info.

Yeah pretty much my position.

Would have preferred Eze but my trust in Pep always trumps my personal appraisals of players.
